Not to bring the vibe RIGHT tf down but recent research tells us that assuming most pedophiles were abused as kids themselves is actually a misleading falsehood which only tends to benefit child sex offenders because statistically itś just not the norm. Statistically, most abused kids do not grow up to abuse kids themselves. Perpetuating the abuse is always a choice and manipulating others to feel sorry for you because they will assume that you too were abused, is a highly common strategy adopted in interviews by an offender group so incredibly adept at deception (speaking as an ex crim lawyer working SA cases and having to be up on all this shit for the past 30 years). I really appreciate the girls speaking on this today. My natural instinct was always one of sympathy initially too but now, sadly, I know more. Love to any abuse survivors reading this, stay fierce work it divas and slay hunties xxx

ok but the instinct to understand WHY the deviant behavior is happening in order to help both the person and deter from any future harms is worthwhile and i don’t think that part of their conversation should be diminished
@ericcartman92515 ай бұрын
@Emma-tf9jg no sh1t. At no stage did I 'diminish' the need to understand the cause. If you want to seriously examine this topic I suggest reading Dr Anna Salter whose work excavates initiating causes, particularly concerning the mysoped paedophile who gets off on sadism and power.
@emmagsfa5 ай бұрын
@@ericcartman9251 i’ll look into her work because i’m also interested in the criminal legal field. however from the (admittedly) little research i’ve done, there are higher rates of childhood sexual abuse among offenders rather than the general population, though this could be due to a number of factors. it doesn’t seem that explicit? but anyway, my original comment wasn’t meant to negate what you were saying (though like i said, the research seems murky) but instead highlight why they brought up child sex offenders in the first place: not to diminish the impact of survivors, but to prevent more people from having to go through this
@ericcartman92515 ай бұрын
@@emmagsfa thats great you want to learn more about it, I also want to know more. Plus I love how you referred to the Criminal Legal system rather than the Criminal Justice system - (a semi-movement has started here in Australian legal/ psych circles to only ever call it that now because 9/10 times the last thing the system delivers is justice. ) Best of luck with it honey x
@JoeMama-tw6gu5 ай бұрын
pedophiles (this is a different group of people than csa offenders) do have higher rates of experiencing childhood sexual trauma than people who aren’t pedophiles. they also are more likely to have had a traumatic brain injury as kids. so those are both possible causes of someone growing up to be a pedophile.

Hello! Linguist here! The phrases Katya is describing is commonly called hedges or hedging in applied linguistics. A quick definition!: In the linguistic sub-fields of applied linguistics and pragmatics, a hedge is a word or phrase used in a sentence to express ambiguity, probability, caution, or indecisiveness about the remainder of the sentence, rather than full accuracy, certainty, confidence, or decisiveness. Hedges might be used in writing, to downplay a harsh critique or a generalization, or in speaking, to lessen the impact of an utterance due to politeness constraints between a speaker and addressee. So using 'I mean', 'actually' kind of hedges the sentence or acts like a buffer between what you want to say! Very common! And the other phrases are platitudes! -"at the end of the day', etc!

apart from the aforementioned hedge phrases and vocal disfluencies, in classical japanese poetry they are also called "pillow words"; they're almost like dead metaphors which have lost their og meaning, lost their rizz, so to speak, but had become an inescapable part of the convention that, as the linguist above said, to use them established sigmaness over the betas. *biting into my pillow words

katya, I recently got a wood splinter jammed under my nail at work. you soak it in warm water and epsom salt a handful of times, which brings it up to the surface of the nail, then you gotta get in there and yank it out with tweezers. hurts like hell, so get a good hold and do it quick!
