This is how everyone should go after the collection's agency. When you send the red copies (1099 forms and 1096) all you are doing is putting in your claim and reporting a tax transaction to the IRS. When the other party receives your 1099 form, they will have to report it as income. This is why it is important to ALWAYS get the other party's EIN number when you are in contract. A 1099-C can only be used if the debt is $600.00 or more. It is usually the remaining balance, and this goes for third party debt collectors. These frauds owe the tax we don't!
