How do you position the material? Meaning which part of the warped or cupped board is on the bottom? Do you use shims at all?

In the first part the board is positioned cut facing down, this allows clamping at the outside corners, if the cup is bad ill add some shims along the two sides to support it more and prevent the wood from bowing down at all during the carve, however as long as you do 2 or more passes the shims could be omitted. 👍👍

It just depends if your talking random or still teaching input. Lol I mean people watch paw paws long video's where he will be just rambling and a few other people. But teaching setups and best bits etc. I'd watch

@@SethCNC I hear ya!! My videos can be a little lengthy sometimes. I made a video Two Pass Carving and even after editing the tutorial part is 40 ish minutes.

Good vid but why didn't you just run it through a planer once the first side was flat?

Great question! There are actually a few reasons: After flattening, this board was then used in the follow up video on how to CNC a flag, so it needed to be on the CNC anyway. My planer is tucked away and not very easy to get out and setup, and there's a little bit of snipe to deal with. Lastly, I would need to rename the video to include a planer 🤷‍♂️

@@SethCNC lol I hear you man...all my tools are mobile and I still hate moving them all back and forth in the small area they are in. I've ordered a CNC machine and get it in July and flattening slabs was one my of my main buying points and your vid helped think of how it "should go" when I get there. Thank you. :D

After this video my Amana slab flattening bit (the ones with the carbide inserts) and that makes for a much smoother finish and wider passes 👍 ive got a few big walnut slabs ive been waiting until after the winter to flatten & this bit will make the hardwood so much easier, so check those out... the $40 1.25" one is what I went with for now, but I'm sure I'll want the $130 2" one soon enough.

@@RonMarshallrone starting cnc from a workworkers perspective i send it to do the most random jobs sometimes. Just to save my labor time... Last summer I was out back with a baby monitor keeping tabs on the cnc poolside 🤣 even if it took the cnc 4 hours to do a job I could do in 1, it was still a victory in my books. 👍
