I moved to a new community in 99. New builds. Everyone was bragging about their all electric houses, no ugly tank in their yard.. I went with propane furnace, oven/stove, water heater, clothes dryer. When snowmageddon happened, all my neighbors were in trouble. I turned my oven to 100° (warm) left the door open. Cracked the window in a bedroom to vent. House stayed at 70°. I had hot water to bathe, could cook. Charged my phone when the rolling power was back on. It was 15 minutes on, 90 minutes off. Watched KZbin and texted everyone. No problem. All 6 days of the storm. That propane tank was a thing of beauty.

Great video. A couple of years ago, I noticed a cold draft coming into my home. My insulated house was not as efficient to keep cold air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. I replaced the weather stripping around all the doors and checked the seal around the windows. If it gets too cold that I need to use a heat, the small portable heater can warm the whole house without using the HVAC.

I am a collector of antique kerosene lamps. If you buy the KI high quality fuel, for the lamps, particularly cental draft style lamps or even the mantle Alladin lamps will heat a room and at night give light. Obviously, you need the carbon monoxide detectors. If you construct a high enough homed trivet and position the top an inch over the top of the chimney you can use them to boil water or heat soup.

I would NEVER have an all electric home. About 15 years ago there was a 3 day blackout in my area during a winter. Everyone in my area had electric lighting and a gas furnace. Being that those furnaces needed electric for ignition, they were cold. And being my furnace had quit 'furnacing' (😄) years before, rather than go through all the expense of replacement, I had run gaslines for 2 freestanding gas stoves, one near each end of the house. I was in the dark (with the exception of a couple of flashlights, & now also solar lights) when I got home after work at 2 in the morning, but my house was toasty warm. 😊 Moral of the story? If you also have natural gas in your home, you might just want to tap off and run at least one extension (cap it off. And make sure to install a shut-off valve), and have a gas heater (make sure you test it out when you buy it) tucked away in case of emergency. (And it was a Cold winter. I stored my refrigerated food in the trunk of my car 😄. And I also had collected 2 vintage battery operated transistor radios. Came in really handy 🎶🎶. 😊). Think about it! Oh. Those 2 stoves are burning right now. 'Baby it's Cold outside.' But not in here!😄

Good luck with that heater.IF you are allowed to use bigger propane cans where you live, like the bbq size one, I suggest you use those with a quality adapter.Just know, you will need at very least 3 one pound propane bottles every single day to run the heater enough not to freeze to death. The cheapest here in NJ is $6- $10 for EACH bottle. If you can afford that, you can rent a hotel where the power isn't out 😱 Funny no one selling these heaters tells you the cost part or exaggerate how long the fuel lasts.I doubt any of them ever actually tested these out in the cold or they would know how long fuel lasts

Dammit, I was one of those Texas residents caught in the middle of the 2021 freeze, and I didn’t have it as bad as some people: the power went out in my apartment for the better part of one Saturday, which I spent in the grocery store Café up the street, enjoying the AC and the Wi-Fi. (ultimately, I think my neighbor was prioritized for repairs, because I live just down the street from a small hospital.) an old friend of mine, however, did lose power in her place for 4 1/2 days, and wound up staying over; I was lucky I had so much to offer, and that’s worth planning for, too. For my part, a generator might not have done much good, since I live in a rented apartment without freestanding appliances; at most, I could’ve kept my computer running. And a question whether the landlord would’ve allowed us to use space heaters…

The problem with these heaters is that they make CO2 - and the bigger problem is that CO2 sensors measure instantaneous/real time air quantities but even low levels that would not alarm on a sensor can be toxic or even deadly over time because CO2 collection upon our hemoglobin is cumulative and only goes away when that hemoglobin molecule dies and is replaced by our bone marrow.

@Robnord1 When the pipes freeze immediately shut the water off in the house including the toilet. There's a shutoff valve under the toilets. Then open all the taps in the house. You'll know the pipes are thawing when water starts to drip from the taps. But don't turn the water back on to the house. The pipes are still frozen & turning the water on will cause your pipes to burst. Just wait it out. Eventually thr water will go from dripping to running. When it stops running, then it's safe to the water back on.

1st thank you for trying to help save lives. 2nd you do not know what you are talking about. When I lived in Silver City and Lordsburg I went camping in the National Forest during the winter all the time with my 2 dogs. My short haired mixed breed and I slept under a goose down comforter and the Au stralian s hepherd slept in the snow next to us. The 1 item I needed to be warm enough to sleep at night was a pair of leggings. Other than that, I had only a pair of wool socks, a pair of leather fleece lined work gloves (from Sears), a Scottish plaid kilt, and 2 or 3 layers of cotton shirts with a jacket. No hat, no propane heater, no campfire, no tent; BTW, no flashlight or gun. How did my dogs and I survive in the snow? We ate alot of blocks and wedges of cheese, sausages (no refrigeration required ha ha), bags and cans of nuts, and beef jerky. At night I had to sleep with my water jug so it did not freeze. A few years later we camped out on the Coronado Trail south of Alpine during early spring. The ground was covered with snow and slush and it rained everyday. I got wet. How did my dogs and I survive and not catch pneumonia? We ate alot of food. Apparently, the C.i.A. pampered you. When the lights go out and I mean really go out, most of your clients will die. By the way, black bears are not a problem, i.e. you do not need a gun or bear spray. My dogs used to chase cubs up trees. Momma bear did not go after my dogs or me. She correctly assessed the situation. The only time I had a problem was she would not let me walk higher than her on a trail, so we turned around and went back down. Another time while I was walking up a dirt road with my dogs in a falling snow on the Coronado Trail, as my head crested a hill I saw the biggest black bear walking towards us. I quietly called to my dogs up ahead who were shorter than me and had not crested the hill. We turned around. Again, no gun, no bear spray, no fight. The C.i A. spoiled you, buddy.
