I actually heard that if you ever find yourself lost in the forest, if you find a river or creek, follow it. It’ll likely lead you back into civilization (and I live in a state that has quite a bit of forested areas).

I know someone who was lost in the woods for 10 days. After experiencing vehicle trouble, this guy left on foot to try to get back to civilization. Unfortunately he ended up getting lost. He wasn't dressed warmly as he was only going out for the day with little to no supplies. He managed to sustain himself on berries to stay alive, but lost considerable weight before managing to make it back to civilization. The lesson here,............Always have a back up plan, and plan for "What If"...............

It's also important to note that if you use sunlight to sanitize your water, do NOT use a plastic container because it could impose long term health complications. Unless you are on your dying breath, sanitize your water in a container that isn't plastic (like glass or metal)

Honestly the best thing to do if u get lost in the forest when u were hiking is simple: find a river, follow it down stream, this will get u either to the coastline where there are a lot of humans, if u arent near the coast dont worry if u follow the river ull eventually either find a small town built around the river or find someone hiking as well

It's also worth adding, how to *avoid* getting lost in forest. I'm using this technique and it never failed. 1) *plan where you're going* Before you go on a trip, note in which geographical direction you're going to go - whether it's North, South, East, or West, keep only those ones. Do not go east-south, or north-west, but only in one of these major directions. Keep it also not only when you're about to get I to forest, but also when you're inside forest and see the crossing. Do not turn in other directions, until you get to remember this specific crossing perfectly; that you know how to return home from it. And remember - whatever you might hear, forest is not a maze. Every track leads to somewhere; none of them is a dead end. The road can be, but that's the other thing. If you keep the track, that is the closest to the direction you've chosen, it should lead there. 2) *keep the track* Although going outside the track can be exciting, try not to do that. Whether it is a concrete one, or just lack of grass shaped into a track of a vehicle, always try to keep it. This way it's almost impossible to lose the way back. Don't you even try to go out of it under any circumstances - it's incredibly easy to lose the track this way, or forget which track you've been following. And even if you follow a provisory track, then remember, that it still means it was used by a people, who didn't get lost. It may be you way back, or track to other village, or town, where you can get Internet access, or ask someone to drive you home. 3) *when your phone and compass don't work* It may happen, that you lose the Internet access signal due to amount of trees nearby, and probably not everyone has a compass all the time. Don't worry, there are still ways to find out where you're going. First one is moss - it always grows at the northern side of a tree (I have no idea why, but this is a fact, you can check it), so you can find another directions - East will be at its right side, West - at the left side, and South on opposite. 4) *note...* a) *...what's written* When you go through forest and find a sign, immediately read it. It may conclude the clues to get to specific place, or sometimes a map of tracks. It may also be an important navigational point, if you ever get lost. b) *...everything you see at crossings* When you see a crossing, immediately note how does it look like. Maybe you can find something characteristic on ground, or on trees? It is very important, because you don't really have to remember the sequence of such navigational points, but only where they existed. You can even write it down, or take a picture of it, noting where it is exactly. You should also count the amount of crossings, to see if you're not making a circle. 5) *don't go too far* As more as you only can keep close to your home. If you feel you may get lost after a specific crossing, don't go through it, but when a specific crossing gives you a choice between track closer to ,,civilisation" and a track further into deep forest, always try to choose the first one. The best situation is when you can still see your hometown - it is also itself a navigational point you should use. Remember, that as long as you're going through forest to have rest from this city noise, you'll eventually have to go back. Forest is a nice place to visit and rest, but you don't want to stay there forever. 6) *tell the others about details* Whenever it is possible, tell someone where you're going and when you should be back. Even a sentence: ,,I go to this nearby forest, I may be back at 8 p.m." is a lot. Stick to this rule always, if you're going to go to a specific place for the first time. I have literally no idea how it can be used negatively, but if you get lost you will say a big thank you to yourself that you told your spouse so, because you're sure that you're gonna be rescued. This way, at a cost of one sentence which will take only a few seconds to tell will save you several hours in forest, including the probability to sleep there and eating insects. You can use it even if you're single - just tell your sister, mother, friend, anyone you can think of by phoning them and asking to phone you in time you will come back. 7) *note your timing* This rule is important not only if you told when you're going to be back home, but also even if you didn't tell anyone. Keep the timing to not get tired of endless walking and to make sure you won't have to go back in night.

I know some of this stuff is pretty obvious how to survive in places such as a forest are the following. -Use the Sun as your natural compass. -Look up in the night sky to tell which way is N,E,W,S (If you can see them), for directions. -Find a long strong stick, and use either wood, or any of your equipment to make it like a spear, staff, or any other type of weapon, just in case of dangerous wild animals like a bear for example. -River/lake/creek/pond, be sure to purify your water first before drinking it (Either use rocks, or cloth to filter the water through a plastic bottle and such, then boil the water to kill harmful bacteria and parasites). -Make a shelter (Doesn't need to look pretty, your life is more important in a survival situation). -Very important to have a first aid kit when going on any adventures, it could save you! -Don't panic and stay calm, being calm make you think more through thoughts that could help you survive. - If you know how to climb a tree, perhaps climb one to the top to see if there's any nearby civilization, or a break of trees in a line, indicating a river, lake, or road. -See a bear, but don't want to fight it? If you happen to have food like fish for example, toss it towards the bear, and slowly back off, but do not turn your back on it until you're in the clear (This I just thought about, and may not work depending on the situation). I'm sure there's other ways of how to survive in a forest, jungle, or wherever you are in order to survive. :)

If I would wake up in a forest I would pick any direction and go straight all the time, chances are that I will come across a path or road or even village. Also if I know the country where I am or approx. area then I could try go downhill or uphill as some countries has all towns, roads and cities near water level rather than uphill somewhere. Following a stream could be an quick exit option too, but it can also be a trap like leading nowhere after lots of kilometers.

@ExacoMvm
@ExacoMvm Жыл бұрын
@@coolasme97 Yeah obstacles, distractions and such could make you forget the original direction, but u can also force going straight either by walking awkwardly over/around obstacles such as sideways while your body maintains the direction you need or always setting target objects/landmarks straight in the front so you maintain reasonably straight path. Ofc best is to always have compass or at least clock of some sort.

Once you realize you’re lost, mark a tree or draw a line in the dirt, put some kind of marker out. So you don’t walk in circles. Then find that water source and follow it. But remember when there’s a water source a lot of times you’ll find animals. So make some kind of weapon to protect yourself and stick to the water source
