I doubt that someone can survive falling literally without parachute. 30 mph is not that crazy and there is a chance to survive.. 100+ mph = death. Though I would believe if someone slams into snowy side of mountain and can somehow survive. googled more and found a guy who jumped into a net, designed to gently decrease his speed. Literally with no parachute, but obviously it has nothing to to with the video above.

"that sounds painful" Don't worry. You wouldn't feel it. From a guy who has snapped both tibia, left one twice, both femurs, left fibula, and left hip, and 9 other bones, I promise you'll be in shock so fast you won't even know what happened. The pain comes from movement. Your best bet is to plant yourself perfectly still until help arrives, drugs and knocks you out, and take you off to surgery. If help is not an option, welp, good luck.

I can confirm the validity of his injury. I fell through a barn roof that collapsed under me and fell around 22 ft. I tried to land on my feet, but they went out from under me, landing on my butt. I felt like I had been hit by a truck, wind knocked out of me. Years later, after symptoms from herniated discs manifested into leg pain (radiculapathy), I found out I had broken my back (compression fracture, T12) and broken my ankle. I deal with arthritis from all the soft tissue injury and go to pain management monthly. It altered the trajectory of my life, to say the least.

I recall reading about a US B-17 bomber aircrew member who survived a fall from his aircraft without a parachute. He ended up landing on top of a train station in either France or Germany and the roof gave way in steps and cushioned his fall. He actually had no serious injuries, though he was dazed. German troops who confronted him couldn't believe he survived the fall without a parachute, but the damage to the roof was apparent. It can happen, but the chances are slim.

He actually had multiple wounds. His right arm was barely attached and also had a few other fractures, It's still considered a miracle he survived. There are about 5 people known to have survived this kind of fall. A Serbian woman holds the world record for surviving the highest free fall without parachute, she was the sole survivor of a terrorist attack on a commercial plane.
