I bought a "Goulet Extra Fine Nib", and tried it out and it writes amazing. Much better nib than the "medium", nib my Jinhao x750 came with. I strongly recommend Goulet nibs! The pen writes smoothly & it doesn't cut off while I'm writing with it (which is the main reason I love the nib).

to anyone who lost hope, keep trying. i was convinced that it wouldn't come out and i ended up using a clothespin to grip the bottom of the nib/feed. after wiggling and a good tight pull it came out and resulted in a now freshly cleaned pen.

There is a special set of pliers that you can get from fountain pen repair parts companies that has rubber covers over the jaws (that are specially shaped so as not to crush the nib and feed) to pull nibs and feeds. But if you can't find them, or think they are too expensive, here is a little secret--they are NOT actually custom pliers made for fountain pens. They are ACTUALLY an automotive tool called "Spark Plug Boot Removal Pliers" and are designed to pull the wire off of the top of spark plugs in a car. Lisle makes some of the best ones, but you can find them branded as Craftsman (at Sears), or in any good auto parts store--usually for around $10-15...

I recommend the triangular grip for the tyros. They force you to hold the nib in the proper orientation. The lamy safari also has this feature. The low price of Jinhao and the easy availability of nibs to swap address two issues that the newbees have with fountain pens: price,and the vulnerability of nibs to damage when dropped.
@Gouletpens11 жыл бұрын
Yes, the grip definitely can help keep the pen in the proper orientation. It's a more subtle triangular feel than the Safari though, and a thicker grip overall.

I just bought my first Jinhao x750 from you along with some ink samples! And honestly, after writing with the pen a friend got for me very sweetly from Amazon, and I love the weight of it and the ink comes out without effort or pressure which my arthritic hands truly appreciate, but, I didn't know what it should or shouldn't feel or sound like to be honest. So just having the ink come out with basically the weight of the pen was very nice. But, it does have an audible sound of...not the chalk board thing, less then that or I'd not be able to deal, though my husband was shocked that I was able to stand writing with it when he heard me writing with it😳 but, since the ink came out so smooth and didn't skip or anything, I didn't know any better. Then I wrote with the Jinhao and it didn't make that noise or feeling at all and I was like ooooooooohhhhhh, so maybe it's not supposed to do that!! I was shocked at how smooth and quiet it was. So, if your nibs are even better then I will be saving up...yea, right now I'd have to save even for just a $15 nib and shipping, things are tight and as excited as I am, it'll have to wait a bit, especially since I sorta jumped and purchased some stuff from you into my credit card when I probably should have waited, but my hubby knows I was too excited to wait, but, need to save a bit now, but, totally worth it!! :) So this was great to see exactly how changing nibs worked though, so thank you for that!! The medium is too thick to me for letters and regular writing, I loved the look of the extra fine, but was curious if fine or extra fine nibs sound or feel scratchy like the chalkboard thing or writing with a nib with no ink feel since they're obviously a lot smaller. Because clearly I have no idea since I thought my gifted one was supposed to feel and sound that way and I was ok with it due to the no pressure on my hands thing, but now that I've written with the Jinhao, I may not be able to go back to the other and it doesn't have a removable nib so, that's a bummer. Thanks so much for the help!!

@@stathkon is that the dragon one? I'm sorry, I'm not sure. All I know is that I had to pull harder then I wanted too as I was sure I'd break it... but at the same time, you don't want to squeeze the nib too hard or you could bend it. I bought a Jinhao X750 on Amazon. The feed was really jammed into the holder. I did the wiggling thing, pulled with pliers, heated, cooled,...and snapped the feed at the base. It took me 15 minutes to dig out the rest of it. I bought a second 750 from the same store. The feed pulled right out. NOW I can't get the Zebra G nib to stay lined up when I put the feed back in. Omg...
@tanalee2295 жыл бұрын
Got it! Managed with a piece of inner tube and a pair of flat nose pliers. Put the pliers on the top and bottom of the nib and feed where the feed is flat-ish, and pushed back. Worked like a charm. Happy camper, here.

The nib on my Jinhao X750 was impossible to remove, so I tried this and it worked: 1. Remove ink cartridge, rinse nib, blot dry 2. Cut a 25 cm (10 in) length of postal twine, double and knot to form a loop 3. Cut a 1x25 cm (0.5x10 in) strip of masking tape 4. Do 4 very tight wraps around bare nib/feeder at collar 5. Align loop strands with sides of metal nib 6. Do 8 very tight wraps around postal twine and nib/feeder 7. Grab cord and pen body firmly, pull using shoulders After this heroic initial removal, the nib was reasonably easy to remove with normal hand force. If you slightly dampen a folded paper towel, that will conform to the ribs in the feeder and make it less likely to deform them when pulling.
@andrewtongue70846 жыл бұрын
Excellent stuff. I wasn't sure if the Jinhaos I own ( three X450's & one X750) were removed - all friction fit, which is easy - & even if yours won't come out on the first try, soak in water, overnight - that usually frees-up any nib section. Great video, Sir !! :D
@pdef19492 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely a friction fit...but nowhere near as easy as shown on the video. I had to soak one in alcohol and hot water, then a bit of penetrating oil following by an alcohol rinse. Took quite a bit of work and I still had to use pliers. I am still working on the second.
@andrewtongue70842 жыл бұрын
That almost sounds as if it was glued in - cannot say I've ever had that much trouble removing a nib & feed. Seriously tight tolerances. I wish you well with the second 🙂

@@andrewtongue7084 The second one still won't come out, even soaking in very hot water.
@andrewtongue70842 жыл бұрын
Philip, there is one last technique you might employ. Purchase some denture cleaning effervescent tablets from a pharmacist/shop; place three in a cup/glass of water with the pen nib & feed into the 'fizzing' water - the oxidation process can loosen the components. What I would stringently avoid doing, is to use very hot water - it can distort the plastic feed. Try that & see if it works...
@pdef19492 жыл бұрын
@@andrewtongue7084 Too late. The plastic feed broke off flush with the barrel even after being cooled and could not be dug out. Unless I can buy a hub the pen is ruined.

I was given a Jinhao X750 with Zebra G nib for Christmas (2021). This wasn’t purchased from yourselves, just a seller on eBay. So far I haven’t been able to get any ink to flow. I managed to force some out at the base of where the nib holder exits the barrel. I haven’t been able to get the nib out even with cushioned pliers. I’ve also tried cleaning the nib assembly in my supersonic cleaner. Nothing happened. Maybe I was conned so I may just ditch this and start again looking for an inexpensive flexi nib pen 🙁

Can't remove the nib/feed from my Jinhao x750. I tried, I tried rocking it back and forth, I tried using a rubbery grip for more traction, I got my boyfriend to try, I tried pushing the feed out, I wrapped it in and broke out the pliers... the thing is not budging. I'm guessing that the feed is not actually removable and now I'm afraid I've damaged the pen. It's one of the black sparkly ones. It seems like not every Jinhao x750 was made with a removable nib/feed. :(

Thanks to the suggestions on this sub thread I was able to solve the very same problem. I wasn't able to get the feed to come out, so I put it in a cub and ran hot water from the tap on it, flushed it out with a bulb, and then tried, with a tiny bit of rocking it came right out. Surprised me when it came out. Just note, even with drying everything out when you reink your pen it is going to write a little watery for a bit so make sure you write a few paragraphs before you put it away. Hi Brian. I just received a medium nib Jinhao X450 - sadly not from Goulet Pens but directly from China via eBay - the barrel wasn't properly finished as in their photo, which I'm sure would not have been the case if I'd bought from you. Free "ugly" pen it appears, as the seller is said to intend to send another - hopefully with a properly painted barrel this time. Lesson learned. Inked with Noodler's "Apache Sunset" (on Doc Brown's and Ms. Goulet's written note on my last order) the Jinhao medium nib doesn't seem to have adequate ink flow. I removed and reinserted the nib/feed (as the ribbed finger grip seemed to be mis-aligned, but probably wasn't). I may have made things worse, but all seems to be in order according to your video, Brian. Any advice is appreciated.

I currently use a Jinhao 750 and I really like the feel of it and I have swapped out the nib for a Zebra G nib. However, I get so frustrated because the ink does not want to flow. I am frequently pushing down the ink to get it going many times in the same sketch. However, I love how fine it writes. I rarely use the flex part of the nib because I am always fussing with it just to get it to write. I saw your video on Liz Steel's website and she recommends your nib. I just watched this video and I am curious if the sketching experience will improve without the current frustrations of a dry pen. I use my pen everyday so the ink is not dried out in the nib. If I order this nib, exactly what is it called on the order form??? Thank you.

Hey there i have a question I have a jinhao 250 I dont know if the jinhao 250 I dont know if the nibs are possible to be taken off
@dangermandave6710 жыл бұрын
Another thing I've just observed while playing around with this pen (with the factory medium nib re-installed and using a Kaweco cartridge): It blurps. I've just had two big blobs of ink shoot out onto the page. Not happy. Might be a phenomenon related to using the cartridge - didn't happen when I was using a converter with this pen.

I had the same problem, but I tweaked the feed nib alignment a little and I think I may have solved it. I think the feed was too far from the nib end. I can;t be certain without more writing.
@dangermandave6710 жыл бұрын
Yes, in the end - by mere chance - I got the pen to write properly by fiddling with the position of the nib. Not straightforward, but once it is done you are ok, at least until you have to dismantle the pen for cleaning...
@svengetman10 жыл бұрын
It's definitely nicer without the blurp.

Are there any other FPs with interchangeable nibs? I have a few Jinhaos coming in. I noticed you mentioned the Noodler's as well. Anything else?
@Gouletpens8 жыл бұрын
Most pens that have #6 sized nibs are swappable. Here's a slice that has a few examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5W4nqSIfLd3hLs - Colin

Can I get a variety of nibs for my Jinhao X159 from you? I would love that. The nib is huge. I would like an M, a1.1, and a fude, if possible. Thanks.

Brian, Have you tried a Noodler's Flex #6 nib on the Jinhao X450 / X750 ? Can the Jinhao feed keep up with ink-guzzling "flex"-writing?
@Gouletpens9 жыл бұрын
+colorprinter41 It really doesn't keep up with the ink needed for the flex nib. I wouldn't recommend it! -Margaret

@@Gouletpens Dang - I read this only NOW, as I am sitting here about to change my Jinhao nib to... a Noodler's Flex nib. 😕 Guess I'll try out the new broad nib instead!

Is there a way to stop ink from leaking onto the nib from opening the cap. Will getting a nib other than the one that came with it help.
@Gouletpens10 жыл бұрын
Will Hornberger probably not too much, this has as much to do with the feed as anything. The feeds on the Jinhaos are pretty wet, so nib creep and ink droplets are common, I find. -Brian Goulet

Ok. So I swapped the nib with one that says shuiyao Ef. It’s not feeding the nib right... but now I can’t get it back out! Help!
@Gouletpens4 жыл бұрын
Not familiar with that nib in particular, but I'd make sure it was the right size (#6). If it's not, that can lead to a poor fit with flow issues. Using a grip or jar opener can help yank it out if stock. - Colin

@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
If you have a grip of any sort, that can help! They are really friction fit in there, so it might take some real force and the grip helps (www.gouletpens.com/goulet-grip/p/GP-10013 ) - Colin

Hey does the brause steno(blue pumpkin) nib fit on either of these pens, and does it fit on the Noodlers Ahab?
@Gouletpens9 жыл бұрын
Rumeel12708 Hi there! Since we don't carry this nib, I am not familiar with which pens it fits. The Jinhao X450/750 take #6 nibs, so it does not look like the Jinhao would keep up with the ink flow needed for that calligraphy nib. -Margaret
@Rumeel127089 жыл бұрын
Oh, well I'll see if it'll work on the Ahab then, but thank you. 😁

does anyone know how to remove the nib from a X159?
@josephjames18044 жыл бұрын
I tried this. It worked except the nib and feed is loose and the ink leaks a little while writing. I had tried forcing it inside the other way first.
@Gouletpens4 жыл бұрын
There's a certain alignment for the feed to fit into the grip section. That should keep it secure and help prevent leaks. - Colin

What various nibs are there that fit the Jinhao pens?
@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
Not every Jinhao pen has the same size nib, but the 159/x450/x750 can all swap with #6 nibs! Goulet Nibs, Edison, Nemosine are all options that come to mind immediately. - Colin

Can i have some help with ink ? Ive been using blue ink in a fountain penn the blue had just ranout and all ive got is black ink cartrages left can i use the black ink cartrage withoutcleaning the fountain pen if you can clean it ? Some 1 please help
@Gouletpens8 жыл бұрын
+Morgan Pearce Its your pen, you can do what you want. It's definitely recommended you clean your pen. However, if you don't it's not like your pen will explode. It will take a while to transition over to black, so it'll be a bluish blacking blend for a while until it all changes over. -Brian Goulet
