Just a note, you started squeezing and tapping the front lever / hose before the front wheel was back in. Only do this if you have a bleed block between the pistons to stop them pushing out! Or put the front wheel back first, making sure not to drop any fluid onto the rotor.

Charlie Ward Great pick up, I noticed that too. For people who don’t know, its difficult to connect his comment about don’t squeeze the brakes at the beginning of the video to him pumping the front brakes (left side) to get the air bubbles out and later put the front time on. I had assumed he put a brake block between the disk brakes to prevent them from closing tightly on each other.

If by European you mean left hand>rear brake and right hand>front brake, that happens only in the UK. In the rest of Europe, and the whole world for that matter, is like in the US: left hand>front brake & right hand>rear break.

@GNX1577 жыл бұрын
Couple suggestions. 1. Use a proper flare nut wrench, not an standard wrench, on the brake line fittings. 2. When you bleed and compress lever, slightly crack the brake line fitting you removed earlier and let fluid seep along with any air bubble, then tighten before releasing lever. Repeat a few times. That tapping of the brake lines is worthless.
@stephendavies6506 Жыл бұрын
Years later i stumbled across this. Today i changed both calipers on my cube without needing to bleed afterwards.

Brilliant instructions on how to change the hoses. I had avoided messing with hydraulic brakes forever as I deemed it more dark arts of bike maintenance. With this guide, the process was a breeze. One thing I'd like to add is the front brake section: put something between (I used a plastic block from the bleeding kit, designed for this purpose) the brake pads before you start pumping the lever in order to remove the air bubbles. If you do not, you might have challenges fitting the wheel and brake disc back as the brake pads/brake cylinders might be too much out.
@polishguywithhardtospellna82277 жыл бұрын
You may need to swap brake hoses, when You decided to test 580mm bar, with bar ends, AND tried also a narrower grip position - for future bar trim, and then trimmed down the hoses and shifter cables, just to decide to go back to wider bars, and THEN found out trimmed hoses and cables are not long enough now ha ha ha. Did exactly that. But gotta say 580mm bar was enough unless I was going downstairs on an angle at low speed. I just gone back to factory 680 bar. It gave me discomfort in the past and wanted to try if it still will after riding some more this season and getting used to the load on my hands.

I had to "swap" for almost a whole new set though.

@GMBN I've recently asked you to make a video about how to change the brake hose and you said its a good idea, but by that, I didn't mean how to swap it, but rather how to completely remove an old damaged one and then exchange it with a new one. If you'd be able to make a video about that as well, that would really nice.

KZbin User Well swapping them over is just on the top, but completely changing it includes the removal and assembly at the caliper and the olive ect.

poolehart my brake hose was losing its side wall strength and always dilating when pressure was created, thereby reducing the force on the brake pads and the braking power. You may have something similar.

In industry yes flexible hose's are lifed as a general rule 5 to 7 years for ground equipment and 10 years for aircraft, although i have a set of hoses about 17 years old on one bike still working good, never even bled them.
