I learnt in swing on my own using a normal kid's plastic ball that has seam pattern at centre. Initially, I also struggled to inswing the ball and I watched lot of videos explaining the same technique similar to this video. The problem with this technique is most of the times your release will be a scrambled seam. So, if you are lucky it will swing into the right hand batsman if the release is correct i.e., an upright seam position pointing towards leg slip/fine leg. So, I tried to correct my release with same technique by observing it in the video of my release recorded with my phone. However, It didn't work for me. So what worked for me was, ROTATING MY WRIST TOWARDS LEG SLIP DURING RELEASE. After learning this, I was able to swing-in but my pace dropped a bit due to that wrist rotation adjustment. I continued practising this with plastic ball and was able to achieve both pace and inswing. The idea is, only you have to figure out yourself that how you are going to achieve that seam position by making adjustment in your action and release. For some people in my cricketing circle, it works by keeping natural wrist release but ny delivering the ball from left side of their head (check Mohd. Asif's coaching video on swing). Good luck ! I hope my experience helped.

@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ankur, For a right-handed bowler. Outswing - put the shiny side on the right as you are looking at the ball. Inswing - put the shiny side on the left as you are looking at the ball. For reverse swing - opposite of above. For example, for inswing use the outswing method above and vice versa.

Hey, Im a new bowler, all rounder, and currently looking for a cricket club, but recently ive tried bowling swing, and found in my normal action, I can produce some inswing, how would this be? also, thanks a lot for the video, its really helpful seeing as now I can bowl both types of swing
@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Great news - I am pleased that the video has been helpful. Your normal bowling action will have certain strengths and weaknesses to it, and one of those strengths is that you have the ability to swing the ball in. It could be down to your wrist position, your bowling arm path, the way your body is balanced at the crease etc… What is encouraging for you is that you can now swing the ball both ways - which is a great skill to have! All the best finding a new club and thank you for the support 👍 Rich.

what do you do when you keep trying to bowl inswing but it keeps going for the away swinger
@SeriousCricketTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Recheck your wrist position at release and your arm path during the release phase of your action. You want to makes sure that both are going in a straight line to help you swing the ball. Take a video of your action from behind to see what you are doing at the moment and see if you need to make any adjustments. Rich

Hi Ryan, it doesn't matter about the pace when bowling swing. Some bowlers can bowl at 90mph and still get the ball to swing (Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram) 👍

@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. The ball isn’t balanced when you release it. Work on your wrist action and make it flow in as straight a line as possible. Also, check your grip. You should be able to balance the ball on your thumb if the two fingers on top of the ball are at the lightest possible grip strength. Practice bowling off a couple of paces and see if you can keep the seam more upright. Go well.

Are the grips for swinging in and swinging out the ball after pitching (not in the air), the same as the ones for the movement in the air? Do such deviations and movements depend on the grip? Or, are they totally random and depend on the pitch conditions? Thanks in advance!
@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, This video explores how to swing the ball before it pitches. After the ball pitches and hits the surface it may move of the pitch due to a variety of reasons including: - Natural variation of the pitch - Bowler bowling a leg/off cutter. This is usually by rolling their fingers down one side of the ball after release and can involve a slight different grip on the ball.

I have two quotations firstly is this dummer? and secondly I’m a left arm over the wicket I’m quite tall so I get decent enough pace and bounce I’ve always been good at bringing the ball in to the right hander but have struggled to control this and have never been able to take the ball away, do you think it might require a slight action change?
@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hamish. Firstly, yes this is at our first-class cricket centre in Dummer which is also our HQ. In regards to your question, to gain control in your bowling you have to bowl. Not at full pace but at half pace. Practice hitting a certain length, and practice swinging the ball in to hit that length. Depending on your fitness level, do that for 20 mins non-stop. Try the grips and the wrist action and see if that helps you to bowl an away-swinger. Making an action change is difficult to suggest without seeing you. If the change of grips and wrist action practice don’t work for you perhaps it would be worth working with a coach who is local to you. Thanks, Richard 👍

I tried different ways but mine always goes in swing I cant put the outswing..could u explain me
@SeriousCricketTV3 жыл бұрын
Swing happens because of several reasons but one reason why you may be having trouble is your wrist position at release. It may be in a consistent in-swing position (wrist pointing at fine leg). With a little practice, you can turn it to face the offside too which will help you outswinger. Start by practising wrist flicks in the mirror and you will be able to see the position of your wrist throughout the action, and you can make your adjustments from there. Do hold a ball when you do this practice, just don’t let go of it. Go well, Rich!

@SeriousCricketTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alok, Change the thumb position on the underneath of the ball to see if that helps the ball to land on the seam more consistently. Try having your thumb on the seam, or on the edge of the seam or just off the seam. Practice the wrist flick which will assist the presentation of the seam. Hope that helps! Richard

Sir how do you swing a ball which I neither new or old? (Between 15-25 overs)
@SeriousCricketTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ali, That is a tricky time to bowl as you could be in early defending mode or there could be enough movement in the ball to cause the batters trouble. First job is to give the ball a polish and get it into the best condition it can be. The seam may be standing less proud and the shiny side will be your best asset to getting the ball to swing. Check your grip on the ball - in the fingers and not all the way back on the hand. Seam tilted slightly in or out. Wrist flick - is crucial. Wrist straight behind the ball and on release flick hard through the ball and straight through the other side. Keep a full arm follow through and pitch the ball fuller giving it more time to swing (don’t forget to set your field accordingly). Go well.

I seam but can't swing
@SeriousCricketTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Abdul, If you move the ball on a regular basis then play to your strengths. How the seam is presented at release can indicate if the ball will swing or seam. A scrambled seam usually seams and an upright seam usually swings. A seam bowler tends to bowl back of a length and a swing bowler bowls fuller to get the batter driving the ball off the front foot. Aim fuller and keep the seam upright and keep the ball shiny! Go well, Richard!
