Just stopping by to say thanks for everything Seamless! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge more then you know! Also, picked up your momentum EP a few weeks ago. 100% Love it. Guys, if you like his tracks on his youtube, do yourself a favor and buy one of his albums and download the high quality files. They just have that bit more clarity that doesn't come through streaming. Sounds so damn good. Worth the 7 bucks, hands down. Again, thanks seamless!

This was extremely helpful. I noticed that I get an unpleasant humming sound in a couple instruments I made (bells and choirs) using Synth1. EQ helped the choirs but the bells are that way in all frequencies. I think things like chorus and flangers can cause it. I had to EQ the heck out of it, add amplification and put a low pass (low frequency) and cut resonance to take out the sound. Strangely, shortening the sample without changing pitch takes it out too, though it leaves a shorter bell sound. The original one has a very high frequency in the waveform in comparison and is much louder. Sound design is very fascinating that way how everything is cause/effect related and is measurable. Thanks for the great video and sorry to talk your ear off there. ^_^'
@itsDeej.7 жыл бұрын
if you're going to use harmor for super saws remember to layer some white noise over it as well to get back the higher frequencies that harmor can't produce. it helps it sound a lot brighter. also the rand In the top left can help a lot if you're getting really phased saws and want them to sound even more blurred out. that being said I much prefer sylenth for saws because it's less precise than harmor tbh. it has a more organic less calculated feel to it that just gives it a warmer quality imo. I've spire is pretty good about that too, but I'm not sure because I haven't used it. also I wouldn't recommend massive for super saws. some people have probably figured it out but I have yet to hear really clean and full saws out of it that don't sound phasey

My supersaw tricks: Fast light vibrato adds a lot for doing very little. Notch filters are good :) A little bit of fast PWM is good too Blend changes a lot to the sound. A wave table with a little bit of movement is good. Distortion is nice. A little bit of Am and fm is swag! Key tracked Phase modulation, such as the stuff you can do in vital, kicks ass. Two detune voices of supersaw (tuned 10 to 40 cents away from original) that get modulated opposite is good. Layering harsher supersaws with more detune with less harsh ones sound nice.

@Quadr44t3 жыл бұрын
Great video again! Lol, I am still a few years behind, but slowly I'll catch up. ^^ Most of the mentioned stuff I gathered by messing around with synths etc. But I really like that unlike 99% of the How To's out there, you explain what is going on. Like the mention of phase. I think phase is one of the most important aspects in sound design (and mixing for that matter. In the form of delay and reverb) yet most people skip talking about it. I really like Synth1 for this kind of stuff. Tho it lacks a little control, a lot of the essential stuff is there. I really like its filter (which apart from ADSR, CutFreq, Reso. Has an envelope scaling-factor that also can go negative, Saturation, and key tracking. It also has detune at oscilator1. Detune with unison, and a chorus/flanger/phaser effect. Dunno it was the first synth I really played around with, so it's super easy to make a specific sound now. And that synthesizer defacto poops out amazing sounds (i don't know why but it's so eazy to get nice sounding synths with this one). But that is my problem. When in doubt, I always grab Synth1. I'd like to switch things around as not to fall in the trap of always making more or less the same sounds. Would you still say Harmor is worth learning to this day? Or has it become obsolete in the past 6 years? Cheers!

Have you ever considered doing a Production Basics on the concept of layering sounds? With super saws it's especially obvious since to create the initial sound you're doing a form of layering within the synth, but lush huge supersaws can also be 3 or 4 separate stacks of different patches, not to mention when layering samples together. When I first started out producing, I would have been saved quite a bit of grief if I had known that certain sounds had to be made from multiple synths/samples instead of getting endlessly frustrated with Massive or Analog.

You have Fruity Limiter on your master channel. I've heard that it's important to turn it off, because it doesn't let you hear the original sound.
@whyaskmenoely258 жыл бұрын
Hartmann sometimes your signal goes batshit and clips. You either turn it down or use a limiter. A limiter is a nice temporary tool in that case, especially on the master as you add sounds together. Rather than worrying about whats too loud or clipping, its better to get all your ideas out first and worry about that later.

How would I go about layering white noise with a saw in harmor, There is no way to generate it as far as I know
@SeamlessR9 жыл бұрын
plk173 If you were dead set on using harmor, what I would recommend is turning the pitch mode over to hz mode (or oct mode. basically whatever the other mode from default is) and slapping the unison onto 9 voices with pitch and phase all the way up. It wouldn't be white noise exactly, but it would be similar.
@plk1739 жыл бұрын
Thanks, havent thought of that. My main concern is to keep projects as light as possible, layering white noise with supersaws gives neat risers

dominickd16 if you have reaktor, get laserbrew, it's pretty good

Omen Ahead what I meant is like what are good methods used for main leads, how many reverbs should a project have etc I've heard that you only need 3 good ones in a project one being for main lead other being for misc sounds and another for maybe a plucky delay sound.
@dominickd169 жыл бұрын
Omen Ahead I also use arts acoustic reverb
@OmenAhead9 жыл бұрын
dominickd16 valhallaroom is a good one but I still use fruity reverb 2 and built-in ones on massive and harmor :P it doesnt matter how many reverbs you have. what I do is, I make a channel with only 1 reverb plugin (100% wet, 0% dry) and route the cymbals (and maybe the snare) in it (and adjust their volume input accordingly) so at least they get the same reverb profile. From there I put individual reverbs on leads, maybe some basses to make them atmospheric or ambient and try to prevent it from sounding like there is a white noise generator. I think, in the end, it doesn't matter if you have used too much reverb on multiple instruments because you can always lower the wet/dry knob on the FX chain. Also, if you are going for an ambient sound, sculpting the reverb indiividually with seperate reverb plugins will give you more character to different elements and I suppose its good to do so :P sorry for the long reply but I like to help ppl when I can :)

@evanhockert31799 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Gallagher Usually to your liking. A lot of times the lower frequencies of a super saw can interfere with basses and you might want to high pass the super saw if that happens. Also if you have many layers you could boost certain areas of each saw to make it sound less cluttered.
