Thank you for this video! I took mine apart to replace the lightning/charge port connector following along with your disassembly. I "only" broke a wifi antenna (replaced), ripped the volume ribbon cable connector off (soldered back, but not hopeful) and somehow managed to pull a speaker cable out. LOL Necessary collateral damage. "I can get by without a volume control. And lousy wifi. And only one speaker." Hahahaha.

On the right side of display there are 3 very sensitive cables. While opening the display START FROM LEFT SIDE. Do not try to remove glue from the area of cables. Let suction cup do that for you. Leave That are for the end. You will most likely damage them. Start seperating the glass from the left side with suction cup. Unless you have a new digitizer to change old one heed my warnings. I cut my cables with blue plate while seperating glue from right side.

As a former tech who repaired the entire Macintosh product line from original to Mac Pro and Laserprinters this is like taking out a car’s engine and transmission and rear end to replace a headlight. Unfortunately this is how Apple chose to build it. I guess the Mac Pro’s serviceability went out the window in order to make the Mr Coffee like model. This is the price of thin being cool for the iPad I guess.

I recently purchased an ipad Air at an auction but the problem is, it was used with a proprietary program so I can't boot up to the desktop or access any restore or built-in functions. I am willing to wipe drive clean but I can't find any utility that will allow me to do this. I followed your video and I was hoping to find a hard drive that I could connect to my PC to erase the drive but the video doesn't show a hard drive. Can you help?

In these videos the iPad being taken apart has previously been disassembled and the glue been removed before this video. Don't use them silly plastic blue things shown in the video, trust me 9 times out of 10, you will ruin the screen using them. also try NOT to use suckers either, they put unnecessary tension on the glass. use a heat gun (hair dryer the best) and a single sided razor blade. you can buy them on ebay. once you cut the glue insert a playing card to stop the glue reattaching itself, slowly work around the glass avoiding the ribbons. its a longer job than shown in these videos. if you don't believe me just look at when he opens the iPad, how glue free the edges of the iPad are. jay

There is not an easier way. Removing the logic board is pretty involved unfortunately.

Powerbook Medic that’s unfortunate.... guess I’ll just have to allow some time to complete my project. If I were to follow all of the steps until the removal of logic board, would I need to solder anything together? Or just reconnect the parts by clicking them together?

Thx for advise Yes be careful I cut the three cables on right side . When you order you battery order new screen incase . The new screen comes with pre installed glue so it's easy Reassemble and press down glue will stick. Thx

@@PowerbookMedic what are the tools needed to get to the battery I have a new battery and I'm unable to find the tools I need that are not bundled with the screen or battery and I am using the hot plate method to open the iPad air its way easier than the heat gun and other methods all I need is the screw drive / drives and wedge and other internal removal tools and I do not have replacement adhesive so id like it if you could plz link where I can find them for the iPad air a1474 plz I've looked at repair stores near me and its 30 to 60 $ cheaper to do it my self

Hard to believe that in this age of electronics and miniaturalization this battery is huge and difficult to reach. Could it be that Apple makes lots of money in repairs???? Hmmmm??? Nah... Apple is not a greedy corporation. This battery could be as small as 1/16" diameter and be accessible thru the back without having to remove all the guts.

WARNING - This video is seriously flawed in that it does not warn you about the depth of cut when cutting the adhesive where the glass/digitizer cables are located. The glass/digitizer has ribbon cables, located in the lower-right corner of the iPad, that connect it to the logic board. Those cables are within 1/8" of the rim of the glass and cutting the adhesive in this area, more than 1/8" deep, will ABSOLUTELY cut through these cables, necessitating the purchase and installation of a new digitizer. The sensitive area is the lower-right edge of the iPad from 1/2" above the lower-right corner to about 4" above the lower-right corner. When cutting the adhesive in this area, MAKE SURE you do not insert the pick more than 1/8" deep.

This device is the biggest piece of crap I have ever touched. I held the Heat gun to it for longer than I should have had to & the touch screen shattered like nothing even with the right tools. Thought I'd try to chip off what was left of the screen & replace it but it isn't worth it at all between a new battery & a screen & buying another used one is pointless as it too will need a new battery. Apple sucks & are a terrible company that do not want you to fix their devices & want you to buy a new one yearly & throw the old one in the trash. Very wasteful, greedy & use slave labor too. I'll never buy their products or even touch one again. At least I can take apart an Android phone without destroying it or having to hold a heat gun to it for dangerous lengths of time.
