I was a photographer’s assistant on a year long local project that featured key figures in our community. It was all portraiture photography. I had never been an assistant and although I’ve had a camera in my hand for 50 years, I was a fledgling photographer. I learned about photography, lighting, using tools, like diffusers, lights, and foam boards. The biggest challenge for me in photographing people was placement of the subject and getting them to feel comfortable in front of the lens. I love photographing nature, most of all. I’ve gotten quite lazy and rarely pick up my DSLR anymore. I generally use my phone. Your tips in this presentation are so valuable. I had no idea you could change the F stop in portrait mode on the phone! I will now pull out my diffuser and other tools and practice in my garden with my phone. This was an excellent presentation, thank you!
