Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! Your issue is likely due to a bad stitch after the mallet originally wrapped. If you would like to attempt to fix the mallet yourself, please refer to the mallet wrapping video on my channel! If you believe it is a manufacturer error, you can call them and get it all sorted! It would be very unlikely that a small amount of playing would already lead to your mallets falling apart. Hope that helps!

Hello,I own a deaganmodel#36rosewoodkeymarimba.Ive been playing this instrument for a few. decades.this November I noticed for the first time some of the lower keys have gone flat. The resonators are clean,I checked the tension of the key connection string,it seemed Normal. The felt pads are a bit hard and no longer red in color. My question is it age,climate change or wear that caused the change in tune?

Hi there! It is most likely age that has thrown those keys out of tune. Over the lifetime of a marimba, fluctuations in temperature and humidity can alter the pitch of your bars. It is perfectly natural for that to occur and is expected after many years of use. The only long-term fix is getting your marimba professionally retuned. If you are interested, I recommend contacting Century Mallet Instrument Service (www.centurymallet.com). The company was actually founded by one of Deagan's tuning technicians. They will have a great understanding of your instrument and are well respected in the tuning, repair, and restoration industry when it comes to mallet instruments. Hope this helps!
