Thanks a million for this. I've been wanting to take some cuttings from my Persian Shield and didn't know where to start. Nice and easy to follow. Cheers.

Down South. I was expecting an ozzie or kiwi accent lol just bought this yesterday. Do I have to pinch out growing tips to make it spread out or does it do that naturally?

you can pinch it to make it fuller yes.

I grew mine last summer. They matured super quickly. Propagated one and it grew bigger than the parent. One died to root rot and the other just from winter. Any tips on avoiding root rot? When is a good time to put into ground from nursery pot

Please write down he name or how to prepare the ground/soil on this video. I already saw your answer about : Rooting Hormone. I believe the name is Take Root by Garden Safe. Only needs to know about the soil. Thanks, Tania

How long do you keep it in those small pots before transplanting them? I didn’t realize they prefer deep shade. That explained why mine were getting leaf burnt.
@GardenDownSouth2 жыл бұрын
I usually don't move them into the ground until it's a nice size plant, like fuller and lots of new growth. can happen quickly as 2 weeks in summer, but as long as 4 weeks. just pull it up and make sure you got good roots going mainly
@sammysworld54852 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen some just take cuttings & place it in water to root. Seems lot easier.
@GardenDownSouth2 жыл бұрын
I've personally had better luck with the transplants out of a solid medium on most everything i propagate. thanks for watching!

I have an indoor persian shield plant, it has just one stem and it keeps growing upwards. There is no other stems and no little leaves other than the main leaves that grow. Do you think I can just cut above a couple of leaves and it will grow more stems?
@GardenDownSouth3 жыл бұрын
It is a nerve wracking thing to do if you only have one, but it will almost surely work if the growing conditions aren't stressing the plant. is it possible to leave any leaves at all?
@millysanchez71372 жыл бұрын
I just stuck mine into a pot of dirt last night hoping it works 😅 I guess I will have to redo it because I did not use the footing hormone 😑
@GardenDownSouth2 жыл бұрын
the rooting hormone isn't necessary, but it does help and can mean the difference

this is Rooting Hormone..I believe the name is Take Root by Garden Safe, i put a link to it in the description
@CBlakeDavis4 жыл бұрын
Take note, you should never ever dip a plant directly in the bottle of rooting hormone, because if the plant you dip has a disease/virus/fungus on it, it can be transferred to all your other plants. Instead you want to dump a little bit of the hormone onto a pot plate or piece of paper and dip the plant base into THAT

great point. I'll be sure not to in the future

bringing it inside your home is good enough, artificial light won't hurt

Hi there! I love Persian shields and have tried twice to propagate them. No success because as soon as I take the cuttings, they are already wilted even before I put them in the medium. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Yours look very alive and perky even after you cut them.
@GardenDownSouth2 жыл бұрын
first thing make sure they are watered very well like the day before and just a little while before. also make sure they're not too "new" and they have a little size to them and are a bit rigid.
@GardenDownSouth2 жыл бұрын
you could try resting them in a cup of water for a few minutes after cutting them

I've never tried that, but I would assume it would work. anything that will retain a bit of moisture and drains well but also let it get alot of air. even sand works great.
