I use three main types of note taking. 1. The "meeting-minutes" type of notes that serve as a reminders of stuff to put on the to-do list. This includes writing down questions that I need to figure out later. 2. Note taking as a memory aid, and a more active mode of learning and gaining understanding. In class. I would use my "notes" to derive formulas, summarize concepts, and work out problems in parallel with the instructor. This was so effective at helping me understand the material, I rarely needed to go back and review notes of this type. 3. Note taking for research. This is the most difficult type of note-taking for me because it requires the greatest amount of organization. First, I like to create an outline of the topic I am researching. Then I create lists of questions I would like to answer about the sub-topics in the outline. Then I start researching / searching for answers to the subtopic questions. I create a separate sheet for each of the questions, and their answers/evidence, being sure to keep track of the reference information on these sheets. I number the question/answer/reference sheets, then write these page numbers on the outline to index the information I have gathered.

What I do is I give my complete attention to the teacher and really try to absorb the lesson, all the while taking quick jot notes. Then when I get home, I re-write the jot notes in a more thorough way. Works like a charm, been getting the best grades for my class since I started ;)

notes i took from this video :) - Write down conclusions instead of facts 1. You will never be able to write down at the same rate someone is delivering you information, thus being an ineffective way of taking notes. 2. Instead of trying to be an audio recorder and write everything down during the lecture you should pay attention to the class and note down keypoints instead of raw data. **Notes should help you learning during class, not after!** - Use a template for your notes 1. By using different colors, visual structures and multimedia you will be able to remember your notes visually. 2. By setting a set template you will also be able to take them more efficiently. - Review your notes instead of relearn them 1. Spend time going through your notes **a**fter class to test your comprehension. 2. You can also try teaching the material to a classmate to see if you were really able to learn. Note taking is more than just a tool to help you graduate it is a life-skill that you should take to daily life. By making it a habit you will also be able to absorb more from the world around you.

1. Take notes before class 2. Listen in class 3. Do Exercises (better than just rereading b/c you are actively searching for something) 3.5. Do not be afraid to use multiple sources for exercises. There are 100s of different books for some topics. 4. Rinse and Repeat

how do you take notes before class
@Silestrinha-ul1wo
@Silestrinha-ul1wo 6 ай бұрын
@@thevideodude-mustard2645maybe you know what's going to be lectured on the following class by looking at the textbook. If your teacher follows the textbook, then you know the material beforehand and can study it before class, so when the teacher is explaining the subject, you'll be able to comprehend better the lesson, but also if you had any doubts at home, now, listening to the teacher, might help to understand what you didn't before. Also you can pay full attention to the lecture and not have to worry about taking notes and understanding what is being explained.

Listening to you talking about Shakespear makes me grateful that in my language class we either don't talk about important people (anymore) or we're talking about german ones. But I'm going to try coloring notes. We usually don't really take notes, since most teachers write everything on the blackboard and we just have to copy that. But it will be useful for social studies/history (this year a mixed subject o.Ô) and university next year.

This video makes a lot of good points about how hard it can be to take notes. It goes into how you only actually listen to 1 word of every 10 you hear. Furthermore, it explains very clearly something that most people don't know, taking notes is a form of learning. You learn on a deeper level. Something I think could be touched on perhaps in a different video with a different audience would be how professors can influence how students take notes. When a professor gives a good structure with a PowerPoint presentation is can be easier to take notes as long as it isn't too wordy. Also, people learn really well though active learning which should be explored by teachers as well.

We have iPads at our school which really changed the way we took notes. It's easy to color code them but some teachers just gave you the PowerPoint with all the notes already on it. Using pictures and sharing study guides are a really nice feature though

My guide to writing notes. 1. When your teacher starts talking, start to record it with your phone. 2. When you come home and is going to study, listen to the recorded file. 3. Write down your with your own words, the most important things the teacher said. 4. Try to really understand what the things you wrote mean, and remember them. Doing this, you don't need to write while you teacher is talking (you can't pause real life, but you can pause recordings) and you won't fail tests because your mind wandered off or you fell asleep :D

For your information, Potter, asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death. A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomack of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. As for monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite. WELL? Lalaris Portela you are a true OCD philosopher in the true sense of the word. Philos Sophos. A lover of knowledge. And you take it to critical levels. Welcome to the club!!!! There are treatments, you are probably aware of Phi Theta Kappa. The best way to hear everything and write everything, etc, and to learn everything is like one poster already advised, get a recorder or use your phone to record each lecture. I prefer to use a voice recorder like ones from office depot or something. One with an SD card. Play back anytime anywhere. drop it on your 'puter and load it on any device you want etc. still not sure how or if this video will help me and taking notes or learning.

Animate in your mind what is being said. Add color to it. Make it fun. You’ve judged the class as boring and now it is. Keep telling yourself the class is exciting and it will be. Keep looking for ways for you to love and absorb the info. Make the connection between the info and how it relates to you or somebody you love and you’ll remember it. Ask the teacher for tips & tricks on how to retain the info. Usually, if you don’t like the teacher and cannot connect to them, you’ll hate the class. It’s always about relationship.

My Advise: Have a phone with *active noise cancellation,* record the lecture, sit in a front row or near speaker if your classroom is big. Take note and review later, Concentrate during lecture, pens down!

+ZiyaD Bin Fahad You should download OneNote. It has a built in recording feature so you can try recording the lesson while typing notes and then you can listen to it again if you want to make sure you got everything. Then maybe write out your notes since it helps you remember them better.

I had my first real lecture at uni today, in chemistry that is, and there's such a huge flood of information that is actually important to understand the complex task at hand, that merely writing short conclusions or notes every now and then seems impossible. Dx

Yuristable Celestene well you make the fact shorter so it's easier to remember. Or you can write it in your own words.

I'm not sure what kind of physics you are taking, but I think most of the information relates to each other. It is in that relationship which one can establish connections and conclusions.

@malcolmsmith6380 8 жыл бұрын
+dudesfriend You can't really make the facts shorter without losing important information and most of it is figgers graphs and occasionally drawings luckily for many modules the lectures are slowed working through the problems they use as examples and correcting the odd mistake when they finish, but it's very hard work and I still ended up taking pretty bad notes. The best that can happen is for the lecturers to film their lectures, which one did for 2 modules in my final year and it made a massive difference.
@TrezCast
@TrezCast 8 жыл бұрын
+Yuristable Celestene Physics? just write down the formulas, what each formula is for, and the relationships between formulas. Take note of any graphs the teacher writes down to explain something with brief descriptions. You can write down examples the teacher solves with you, and some facts that the teacher says that you feel is important. Ppl usually study physics from textbooks, so your notes are simply references that'll help you if you get stuck. And LOTS of youtubers explain physics, so you're fine even if you don't get your textbook...

If you take good notes, you can do good in the class. I haven't done grade A work in that class yet, and that's really why I am here.

What about history class when all we get is facts?
@moonshiry
@moonshiry 9 жыл бұрын
Not everything is about facts. They do carry themes. What was the probable cause that sparked Hitler's rise to power. Learning this way is much faster than listing down all the facts and then concluding that this led to Hitler's rise. Regurgitation of facts is a B student, an A student is able to draw strong parallels with related incidences and conclude with his own substantiated opinion
@moonshiry
@moonshiry 9 жыл бұрын
moonshiry facts can be found in text books. But the thought process is more valuable. Everyone can read history, its how you use those facts that separate them.
@jameshanson8939
@jameshanson8939 9 жыл бұрын
moonshiry I disagree somewhat. While your advice is GREAT for some, your conclusion is wrong for others, like myself. I am horrible at history and would pretty much write as much as I could for notes. I would go over them a little right before tests and I ended up with a 104 final average with a little extra credit. I was dead certain I was going to get a B in that class and I was the top scorer in all of my teacher's different classes last semester. I couldn't draw conclusions to save my life, I regurgitated my way to an A++, too bad that can't be reflected in translation to the 4.0 letter grade!!! History is about facts. Math is about facts. I ain't saying you're wrong, just saying what you are correct about does not apply to 100% and I don't have a clue of what percentage it does apply to, but I am not one of them. Were it not for factual regurgitation, I would not be in Phi Theta Kappa

It's a way of differentiating information on a page. Say you're taking notes for a history class- there's more than just people you need to remember; there's places, maybe some dates, and all the key details related to those things. You could write all people down in red, places in green, dates in blue, and let's say key details are underlined in purple. If you do that ^^^, then you can quickly skim a page of your notes and your brain will latch on to where the colors are and what's written in them. Make sense?
