I worked for a woman as a private contractor for almost 2 years. She taught me more than I could ever have imagined about bridal alterations-I had absolutely no experience in that field of sewing. She was very good at her craft and a lot of her techniques are ones you use. Unfortunately, we were like oil and water...we just didn't mix. The pay was really low, and no benefits or taxes deducted. I will say I really learned a bunch and that can never be taken away. I don't do bridal alterations now, but had a MOB dress to do and felt confidence from my teachings. Btw, you have a very calm disposition about you. Lovely videos😚

Mostly self taught because when I started my Gram’s got me started, high school home economics & my mom working on my dance costumes. It was all basic sewing… I wanted to do things that were pretty & glamorous. Now you can google anything & so glad I got notification of your videos. Thank you!! Great job! I’ll be bk!!❤

Thank you for sharing your technique! I've always removed more beads than necessary in order not to break needles, which meant repopulating a whole lot of beads!!! By pushing the remaining beads to the left and using a zipper foot when stitching, this alteration went so smoothly on the MOB gown......and.....I was left with fewer beads to replace!

Another great video! Yes breaking a few needles is part of the deal in my world. Have you ever done this one- out of curiosity- where you have to take in the sides and raise the waistline so you slide the back up so it meets the top edge on the front bodice and the waist edge is what is off- then you cut off the waist front as pinned and only do the back as much as takes it to match the front? I have found this fabulous especially on plain top edge gowns and ones that have very strong design lines around the top edge, and strapless bridesmaids too. A lot of the time you end up being able to just leave the back waist and only cut off the front which really saves a lot of work!

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom! I have been doing bridal for 8 years, but some of your techniques and the information you share I have not seen before. Questions regarding the size 18 needle. Do you only use this size when sewing over beading? Or do you use this size for the purpose of the thick layers of the shell? If so, do you have to switch to a smaller size when going through the lining layers? Thank you!

When you folded that dress and sewed the same together your top edge matched. If I fold my wedding dress at the same and take in an inch and a half it will not match at the top edge of the under arm. How do I fix that top seem to make it look good under the arm hole? The reason why it does not match is because the front of the dress is high and the back of the dress is low. Do I completely take out the top seam and fold it down inside to make it a smooth transition from front to back?

Do you press your seams open on the inside to keep the new seam crisp? Any pointers doing this with beads?
@BridalSewing
@BridalSewing 3 жыл бұрын
No, I only press the outside. My iron is set to nylon temp always, so it won't harm the beads/gown. I just press & use the clapper for a flat finish. I know it seems like I leave out important steps, but I really try to narrow my videos to only what they are about. You know how bridal is so endless, it is hard to find a good stopping point, yet be comprehensive.
@adriennegonzales2636

I do press from the inside. I press flat first to get rid of the old line and then open. I stuff the pressing ham up inside to help support where I'm working and not create new dents.

@@adriennegonzales2636 I should say, sometimes I find this absolutely necessary- especially for silks. But, if I'm doing a gown with this much structure and beading, I do not press several times- only the final time, but with a clapper. It works just as well for me on this type of gown.

You don't want it to look like its been widened or let out at all. It must look 100% original. Before the phone cameras i would have sketched the pattern and color of the beads by hand (in my notebook) in order to have a guide to follow. It must not show any signs of being widened at all but must look original. Thanks for letting me give u my 2 cents. 💕🐞
