I just found your channel today and it's been very helpful for me, thank you! I'm a professional photographer but I haven't been shooting for over a year now, just because of lack of motivation and feeling very jaded about the whole process. I used to do conceptual, fantasy, and surreal photos for various alt fashion magazines but I find them pretentious now. I don't know why but I can't get over the attention getting factor, so I started spending a lot more time outside and completely embraced nature photography which is my one true love! haha But I still like to do self portraits but I am so stuck in a rut with them because of the same reason as before. I don't want to try too hard or it just seems so fake. Like I literally get a uncanny valley feeling from the images and it becomes disturbing. But I love your ideas, they are exactly what I am looking for to spark my creativity again. Soft, simple images, so much more introspective without being extra.

if you aren't gonna print the photos in huge sizes, and you just want your photos for social media or small print, the latest phones have fantastic quality and do the job, I print a lot of my iphone photos in small sizes and I love them!

I have been struggling with how to get my camera above my bed for a top down image of me tucked in. I might have to use my iphone but really really want to use my dslr. I might try to find a way to get a tower behind the bed with books and secure it like you did. Or I may have to make a bed on the floor. :) Thank you for the inspiration!

Hi Bridget! Ah I'd definitely recommend you build a bed on the floor and then try to make a tower as high as you can with tables and chairs. It's surprising how high you need to build it up if you want your whole body to be in the frame, but definitely go for the DSLR as you'll get a photo that will be higher quality :) Let me know how it goes! -Kika

Also you can go to your camera setting on any Samsung phone (I'm not sure this works for every android smartphone) and set the trigger a 3 second timer when it detects a hand. This way all you have to do is point your open palm to the camera, it detect your hand, and it gives you 3 seconds to put your hand down and it will automatically take a picture.
