Okay, so, 2 years ago I was GIFTED a Budgie, without my knowledge. I did do a ton of research after I got him through, and he is VERY spoiled and loved in this house. I did however get let in on a bit of information that would've helped me in getting him to trust me a couple weeks ago. He still doesn't trust anyone and is scared of EVERYTHING sadly. My cousin, who gifted him to me, had him for 6 months beforehand she told me while laughing that she would just manhandle him and make him let her hold him. like, excuse me? I said, "Well that makes sense as to why he's so scared of people." and she just laughed again and walked off. I looked at my mom who was just staring at her walk away in pure disbelief. My grandma came in and we told her what we heard. She had birds her whole life and even had a budgie named Tinkerbell when she was my age. She was so upset. After all that lol Is there any way I can get him to trust me? I would love for him to feel safe and loved when I come around him instead of fear.

It usually takes traumatized birds a while to start trusting again, but consistency it might take a couple of months, but try some basic things like hand taming (get him used to stepping on your hand for example eating a treat off of it or climbing a single finger each day) and just got a more used to people slowly. But be careful about giving them too much attention, do it in small little bits and give him time to adjust and get used to this environment Ps. Sorry for grammar

Yeah i agree i have a cockatiel with my two budgies He wqs scared of everything just a finger put him into achock I had him for 6 months now and he strps on my finger or hand he flies to me when I call hes name. He is still scared when it comes to new thing but i took 6 months to earn hes trust he is 5 years And now he love bird life My advice is go slow pay attention to how he respond Hes respons show u the level of trust he is at

I know how u feel. I had my budgies for a month and they're still scared of me wven tho I did EVERYTHING!. But I'm concerned since they weren't rlly scared of me at first, I even picked them up!, pat them...etc. but now they are facing away from me when I try to handfeed them to bond! I really dont know what to do, but anyway....Goodluck with ur birds!!

I heard that putting your hand next to it every 5 minutes until it's not scared anymore helps it builds more trust and then handfeed the bird everyday and one day they'll get on your hand! My budgie started to like me after 2 months and one day he decided to get on my hand and now he loves getting on my hand! I also took him out of his cage for the first time today and it felt so good to let him roam around my house XD! I hope my advice helps!

I would start feeding millet and then slowly take the Millet away with other hand, leaving 1st hand in cage for a while with nothing. Do that for a few mins each time. Mine took over a whole year to get tame and jump up on my fingers/hands. It just takes LOTs of practice and going slow. ❤

Mate I need help actually... I have a bugie but Its like 9 months old maby more and I need a video on how to tame it it's been like 1 and a half straight weeks of on time taming session and everything but it's just not getting tammed it eats from my hand but only if I put like a bunch of pellets and sometimes it pecks me when I rub the bottom of it's tummy to get it to stand on my hand please please please make a video of tamming an older bugie or just help me in the comments.the only thing I can't get my hand on is millet spray because I'm in jordan and it's really expensive but is it still possible to tame it please answer.😢😢😢

Hi! I have experienced the same, and my new budgies are seriously like this, it's been an year, but the previous 2 budgies I had were super easy to train, and I have noticed a difference.... with my previous pair, I was more gentle and calm... I was pretty patient, and taming a budgie takes time cuz they are small prey animals and we are huge from there pov..... they can't be trained like a dog.... Here are some tips>>>>> 1. For the first 1 week just get the budgies use to ur presence This is really important.... this is the first step and helps a lot U could just sit near them, read a book, draw, watch TV, listen to music etc, nearly all ur daily activities, but the difference is that u should near them, soon it will be use to ur presence (Ik ur budgie eats from ur hand, but still, give it a try, even if it's only for a few days ) 2. When u know ur budgie is comfortable around, u can start hand feeding it.....(which u do, and that'sgreat! Btw, u said u can't buy millets, same here, so I have substitute for it, I use coriander, u can see if ur budgie likes it or not) Now, u can try putting a grain of seed in between ur index finger and thumb, and see if it eats it...... do handing feeding or preferably the second tip (the grain between the finger and thumb one) for around 1 week [If u do the grain betweenthe finger and thumb one, after one week just join ur index finger and thumb together, as if there was a grain(don't put one) and see if the bird comes forward to eat, that means it trusts u! And the step was successful] 3. Like I said before, find any substitute for millets ur bird likes, (like I had coriander) So let's just take the example of coriander, first feed the coriander from ur hand, just hold it and let ur bird eat from it, after like 4-5 days, just place it near a perch, like let the bird jump on the perch, to eat the coriander (like just see if there is a perch in it's cage, other than the one it's sitting on and hold the coriander behind it, and let it jump on the other perch just to eat the treat) 4. After it is successfully doing it try the same with ur hand (like just hold the treat in ur hand and place ur index finger outwards, so that it has to come up on ur finger to eat the treat, while doing it don't move ur hand and NEVER chase ur bird or force anything, I repeat NEVER! ) 5. Once the bird successfully does that step too (give it time, even if it does it, repeat it for at least one week), make a fist and take out ur index finger (like u did in the previous step, just without the treat) and if it jumps, then give it treat immediately (if it doesn't, then, repeat the previous step for some time and then try again ) (do this step for around 2-3 weeks) 6. Once the bird fully trust u and u know it will not fly away from ur finger, take it out in an enclosed room, with no fan on, and if it's comfortable, do it everyday ! Now u can teach it new techniques....... Note - Do the 1st step with all the steps, how far u have reached just don't stop doing it And the treat I talked about earlier, just give it during taming sessions, so it thinks it gets smth special with u And do take it out once u know it fully trusts u, ik keeping a bird in a cage for long is bad, but the situation might worsen if u take it out and it won't go back in and u gotta chase, u will him more afraid of u NEVER CHASE OR GRAB UR BIRD Like u said it pecks when u touch him, don't touch, especially at an early stage like this, this is smth ur bird might refuse even after the last step, and u can find vids on youtube which can guide u to how to touch ur bird, so please don't touch it, and remember NEVER to touch the tail, and NEVER to force it for anything.....like bathing or eating Also, remember vet visits too..... they r important Tip/Advice - notice ur birds behavior, like ik what my bird does when it needs food, so when I notice it give it food..... these small behaviors maybe difficult to figure out, or to even notice but u can try.... it is good to know everything about ur bird It seems kind of a long shot but if u r committed u can do it, bcuz the result is worth it :D If u need to know anything else, I am happy to help 😊 Hope this comment helped u, do update ur progress....

Hey.. Im a new bird owner. I need advices from you guys. I have a budgie and a, i dont know the exact size of my cage, but its pretty wide for a him(my budgie) to roam around, fly inside and even climbing from every where in it. But, his not tame yet. I want to make him get enough sun for the day, but the house im living is doesn't have that access as much.. Should i let him in the cage outside in the mornings so he can have some morning sun, or should i just keep him indoors until his tame? Because my neighbor's birds keeps making him want to escape his cage and making him want to get out...

Hi, well I'm not an expert, but according to me, u should actually first tame the bird, so that it's calm and it knows that it is safe and there is no need to escape, but taming can take a lot of time and it depends on each bird and their owner, so, ig If u think taming it would take time u could simply take it out for 5 mins every day maybe..... if it is really hyper then don't exceed 5 mins... Tbh, I'm not a professional nor am I the best bird owner..... but I have good experience with birds........ They are small prey animals who can't trust anybody so fast, like a dog... So, I hope this helps! 😊 Btw, what's the name of ur budgie??

I had 2 (got them at the same time/same pet store) and one passed away 2 years after I got them from a cat. 😢 so now I just have 1. It took me a full year to get her tame enough for me to handle her, play with her , hand feed her and she gets up on my fingers as well. She has a whole bedroom for herself, with a cage she mostly stays in. But she will fly around the room ever so often. It has taken over a full year, but She has gotten so tame now that I can't imagine having/getting a 2nd budgie again. I would cry if she wanted nothing to do with me again, like when she was in a pair

Some budgies won’t get comfortable after many time :( You could start trying to feed it or placing your hand in the cage for 5 minutes every day, so your birds will start to get comfortable with you

Don't force your birds to do anything, no tricks or anything. Just let them be by themselves until they comfortable with thier surroundings and the noises, and they will eventually come to you. ..and please, for the love of Mike, let your birds out of their cages to have a fly around in the house so they can spread their wings and become strong and healthy. They are not ornaments to be looked at in a cage. My birds are out all day flying around. They are happy.

Hi! I got a budgie ! He is 3 months old and yes, i tamed him to step up and handshake but when I want to step up or smth inside the cage, he flies everywhere (in the cage of course) and i didn't know why. Thank you for this video ! ❤️🦜 But i still have a question. Have you experience your budgie to "play" with its food? Mine gets all the seeds out of the food holder and makes a big mess. He goes there, puts his head in the food holder, and with his beak, he removes almost the whole seed mix from there. Is this normal ? How can I prevent it to stop doing this ? 🦜

Congratulations on your new bird. Birds are very messy with their food. It’s normal to have them sling their food all over the place. Someone else may have a better suggestion but if your bird steps just fine everywhere except inside the cage I would consider target training to encourage it to step up. You could also use target training to have it come out of the cage and then step up if that works better. There are lots of videos on how to target train.
