I've had my hamster Rune for a couple of months and she will take things from my hand but still isn't comfortable sitting on them or being picked up. I was really disheartened at first that she was just never going to be cool with it, but we've been making progress.

Thank you for making this. I'm having a hard time taming my Hamster. He doesn't like my hand. He bite me at first and now he doesn't but for some reason he won't let me hold him. :( He starts to chatter his teeth a little when I try to pet him.

Slick Nick I know how you feel and progression can be slow but just keep working with your hamster everyday. I would suggest to just keep offering him treats from your hands and palm, stroking and holding him will take more time. The most important thing is to move at your hamsters pace and eventually he/she will loosen up. Hope this helps!

Try take toilet paper and rubbing your hands with it so they get used to your smell. Also if you eat before you touch your hamster wash your hands otherwise they’re going to think it’s food.

chattering depends what kind of chattering, if its loud chattering your hamster is upset. if its soft chattering it means your hamster is okay with what your doing 💞

I can't do bathtub bonding, as I have arthritic knees, and wouldn't be able to get back out of the bathtub myself! Bug's cage sits on my shower chair for some height, and I work on touching him when he's distracted with treats. He may spend more time as a work in progress than your cutie did.

You don’t have enough bedding in there, you need at least 6 inch. To have a happy hammie. Or 3 inch. If u just want a ok hammie

you need six inches PERIOD, not even 5, i recommend about 7-10 inches

This is so odd to me how he is so nervous. I currently have a Syrian hamster and have had 3 before him and they all were ready to be held after acclamation in their cage for around 3ish days. None of my hamsters have ever bites me rather knock on wood. What i would suggest that i have seen makes a big difference is make sure they are in a quite room with little noise because lots of nose can stress them out and cause aggression.

That's how I tamed my babies :) I used a dog pool though, instead of tub because I wanted my hamster to go all the way around me, 2 of them climbed to my back a laid flat like Pancakes on my shoulder :)

Hey! Love your hammie so much😍💕 Just some friendly tips, you should have least six inches of bedding in his cage and the bare minimum of hamster cages is 450 square inches. (Length × Width) Although, studies have shown Syrians do much better in at least 680 square inches. (There are bigger bins around the holidays so watch out for that, or you could buy an IKEA detolf which has 950 square inches!👌💕) I would add way more chews to wear down there teeth since they are always growing! Other than that I think you are doing a great job as a hamster owner and to keep up the great work.🐹❤❤

I agree, bedding looks a little thin and bin cage looks pretty small. I think he'll appreciate thicker bedding to do some burrowing in, especially if you add a few different types/textures :)

a good tips to make sure it doesnt bite u; use hand sanitizer before interacting w your hammy. ofc let it dry so it isnt a strong smell

Hi, amazing video but I need help taking my dwarf hamster. So he takes food from my finger like when u put it in front of him but when u put it on my hand so he can go to it he bites me every time I try. Check which soap you have, use a mild soap. Also, make sure to wash your hands and then interact with your hamster.

So Ive been giving treats to my hamster, and every time I put it in my palm she bites the side of my hand or if my fingers are facing her when the treat is on my palm she bites my finger. But when I give the treat by pinching it she doesn't bite me. I've washed my hands thoroughly, rubbed bedding on me hands and always let her come to me, so I'm kinda lost right now.

@@sharonfaustine3038 omggg i didn't think anyone would reply, she's stopped for about a week now, only one small nibble since, but litterally just 1 am this morning she was up and i wasn't asleep yet. i tapped on her tube and she knows i will lift her out if she goes in, and for the first time she came onto my hand, after 10 mins playing in her taming container thingy, because she wanted to get out. I was so scared to put my hand there with no food on my palm because usually that way she's distracted and wont bite me when i scoop her up, but i almost litterally cried when she just popped herself onto my palm and sat waiting for me to lift her out. I'm yet to play with her later and see if she tries it again. I don't want to jinx it🥺 I hope your hammy gets tamed soon too goodluck✨✨✨ Oh and after observing her for at least about 20 mins a day🤣 i realised that she was really scared when she bit me last time, and now that i think of the times i got the nasty bites was because she was in her container on the floor and i stood up to get some sunflower seeds, i probably looked even bigger than usual😅 because when i came back down to sit, every movement i made was replied with a sudden movement from her and she'd stay still as a rock, so when i put my hand in too close to her she bit😟 so now i put her little playpen/taming container on my bed when i want to play with her, so i don't look so tall and scary. She's a really cautious and scaredy hamster compared to my sister's so i always have to move aroun so slow near her. Aahhhb Sorry for the long comment😭

I gave her treats here and there but I didn't need to put it on my palm. I gave them to her once she sat down! I'm so happy, I'm so shocked that such a shy and extremely skittish hamster like her could be so playful, she enjoyed my hands and I'm so happy, my heart is full.

Isabelle Mae I completely understand how you feel about being scared but the most important thing is to 1. Determine if he was biting you because he was scared or got aggressive or smelled food and 2. to keep working with him. As you saw in this video, Rhino bit me once too and I got a little scared after but just kept on offering him treats out of my fingers. Keep doing that until your hamster seems calm and then place some food in your palm and allow your hamster to come over and eat that. If they don’t, that’s ok just keep trying! It’s not only important for your hamster to get comfortable with you but you with your hamster. The more often you interact with him the more at ease you both will be.

It’s best not to wake them up if they are sleeping. They can associate you with a rude awakening and become upset. It’s best to handle them when they are awake on there own

Your hamster jumps over your hands as if he doesn't want to touch them. This is unusual. I've never had a hamster do that. Usually they will just walk over your hand like they would walk over anything else. Like someone else said, it's strange that yours is so nervous. I'd steer more toward a calmer, more accepting hamster instead of one that wants nothing to do with you unless you have food. Like all animals, hamsters all have different temperaments. I just don't prefer this one's disposition.
