I have been tanning hides for over sixty years. I do traditional tanning as my native people up in far Northern California have done for centuries. We never salt a hide as we don't need to. Many times I have washed a hide in powdered Borax soap. Meat bees are a great help in getting meat of the hide. They don't like a salted hide

Do you use brain tan? After fleshing do you air dry it before the tan goes on or don't dry it at all and just go straight to the tanning step? Every video I watch does something different

thats a shame because its just this video that makes it look complex. its actually very simple, i just did my first hide with noexperience whatsoever. watch other simpler videos. you dont need any of this stuff

My skidster works great for pulling them off. Hook deer to pole around neck. Skin some back around neck. Put a rock in the hide. Tie it and hook to skidder or tractor. Back up. Truck would work. Wahl clippers. Buzz hair. Flesh it. Soak in water with ashes. Pull out. Grain it. Dry it. Brain it. Work it soft. Done. Whewww. I'm tired now.

Thats bs!! Every single hunter I've met here in Denmark and Norway just want the meat. They hate that you want their scraps. They'll give it to you if you ask but boy do they act like its a bother
