Remember my first landing of a tantrum. That day I didn't even plan that anytime soon I am ready for the inverts. My new befriended buddy just explained me nicely and encourage me to tray. Even though being super slow learner. I manage to land the first successful Tantrum on 7th attempt on the same date which is incredible. To compare to HS FS 360 which seemed much way easier for me, I failed about 50 attempts before successful landing. Just have your balls and try. Some more, crashes from it are not that bad!

honestly I took no particular order, and I think that is the most fun way to do it, but if you want to be safe and learn everything properly, just really work on all the basics, all frontside 180s switch and regular, toeside and heelside, same witth the 360s. you can really learn a tantrum, ts backroll, frontroll, scarecrow, hs backroll in whatever order you feel is most comfortable for you. but yeah, i just say to try at least one new thing every time you ride whether its difficult or something simple.

Ok, so here are my issues...last year I actually started pulling toe side back rolls on the left side kicker. I’m goofy footed. Because I’m goofy, my tantrum will be on the right side kicker but the issue I’m having is because the rope is pulling so hard to my left, it’s impossible for me to keep my shoulders lined up with the cable. My axis is all twisted and I’m not pulling it. What should I do to fix my rotation?

Hey JB, i’ve struggled with this on the kicker but have it 100% on boat. What are the key differentiators when hitting the cable. For reference, on boat, I cut hard in the flats, come off edge right before the wake, and trip it. Seems like the kicker should be a more normal edge. Thanks!
@jboneill5 жыл бұрын
yeah so basically if the kicker is really mellow you cant trip, so it requires more of a push rather than just letting a wake trip you over, but if the kicker is really steep, it will almost feel like the boat. technically if you edge really hard and create enough speed, you could almost make a mellow kicker trip you (probably not a good idea but is definitely possible) but yeah you just need to push and initiate the rotation more on your own on the cable, where on the boat, you can let the wake do more of the work other than that they are really similar
@richwheeler76005 жыл бұрын
JB ONeill thanks for the help. Sounds like a steep kicker might be a huge help. Otherwise i’ll focus on pushing off with both legs like a tramp backie. Stoked for warmer weather here in the US!

@jboneill4 жыл бұрын
Tantrum or toeside backroll
@MUJUNKY2 жыл бұрын
TL;DR Its all in the legs bro, don't throw out your neck. One thing I will say, having done a tantrum, do not try to throw your head back. That leads to you going back first into the water. That seems obvious, but the way our otherwise excellent instructor shows to do it seems to suggest throwing your head back. I understand he probably did not mean that motion to come across that way. When you are rotating, gently, calculatingly spot your landing, your head should not move jerky or suddenly, just a short motion of the chin, not the neck. you can severely injure yourself if you do not complete a rotation while your neck is pitched all the way backwards. I learned that from the school of bustmuhass. You don't need to jump on the uptake. Stand up leaning slightly backwards as you feel the board leave the wake or ramp, pull your knees in to accelerate your backwards rotation. As you are now rotating, do not throw your head/neck backwards, just look "up", and spot your landing angle. be mindful that it is your legs that control your rotation speed. Basic physics says humans are terrible at applying force while airborne, but you can exploit the gameplay bug of life known as centripetal force to either accelerate or decelerate your rotation. if you are belly flopping your tantrum before a full rotation, pull your legs in more, if you are back flopping but have already rotated, extend your legs sooner, just like he does in the video. You can see the exact physical effect I am talking about in the video.

That means I'm not on the board as often as I'd like to but this year I've set my goal to learn new tricks and that's what I did in the first 2 days of the course this year. I post that comment because I'm struggling to decide whether I sould try the Tantrum or not because I've just learned basic tricks such as 180s on kickers and tables or 360s on flat water. I am able to do a backflip into the water or on a trampoline and that's why I think I could nail this trick. What do you think?
