Piano player with minimum guitar knowledge here. Can confirm this worked 100% worked and I am so stoked. I would recommend proper posture and positioning and a couple of warm-up / exercises for beginners like me before practicing because my left hand felt like fire after a few consecutive seconds without stopping playing this.

Not being rude, genuine question, but why are you afraid of soloing? Like I get it in front of others and I assume that’s what others mean, but I’d not whats to be afraid of when your alone? If you screw up or it sounds like shit no one but you knows :D haha

I've been playing for a little over 20 yrs and we'll over half of that I was more or less scared of learning lead stuff and highly regretted it. I'm no pro now by any means but all I can say is just practice practice practice. The more time you put into leads you would be surprised at how fast you start to pick things up after learning a few techniques. Don't be afraid to try and cover solos that you think are way above your level. Even if you don't cover the whole thing learning sections here and there will really help you start to piece things together over time.

Thank you for the lesson. Tricks you should all know: Mute the other strings when you tap. Use your tapping hand to mute the other strings. Unless you have low action, you have to hit the string hard with your tapping finger. At first, it will be hard. Much like your left hand, you’ll need to build a callous to get the tap to work. Also, if you want a long tapping lick to sound good, go slow. If you think you got it in 6 minutes, you don’t.

Why does everyone put their pick away when they start this? when you are playing a song, does you band pause so you can sit your pick down to prepare for tapping, and do they pause again when you need to re-acquire your pick for the licks after your tapping passage? I just don't understand the process and why everyone does this. I want to learn to tap with a pick in my hand, so that I can seamlessly throw some tapping in a nice riff.
@decayd53053 жыл бұрын
They grab the pick after riff in a way they can tap.
@jessehutchings3 жыл бұрын
You are tapping with your pick between your pointer and thumb, tapping with your middle or ring finger and muting the open E/A/Ds with your lower palm palm
@jessehutchings3 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, you could also hold your pick to your palm under your pinkie finger to tap with your pointing finger or thumb but this is uncommon and might be more likely to drop your pick
@samusranzer3 жыл бұрын
I've seen guitarists attach a guitar pick to their thumb with a rubber ring. I saw an interview with Chris Broderick where he says that using that helps him free his 4 fingers when he taps. John Gallagher uses that as well. As for other methods, I've seen guitarists hold the guitar pick with their lips or holding it with their 3rd and 4th fingers. You can also use grab your guitar pick as usual and just tap with your 3rd finger. I don't know if that is 'correct,' but it feels more comfortable for me

Same logic just make sure that the open string is correct in your key signature. Tapping on open string sometimes sounds weird because it’s a full octave difference so it might be best to play an “in between” note
