Great video and some great tips - thanks Matt. Interesting to see the Stainforth & Keadby in fine form as it always seemed to fish rock hard for my visits on the NFA Nationals back in the 80s & 90s…
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Thanks Jon. There are a LOT of fish present throughout it now, at all times of year to be honest. I fished a Junior National on there in 2000, and it was rock hard! We were fishing for a few perch and eels, with maybe some roach if we were very lucky. It's certainly better fishing now.

@@TackleguruTV That's great news Matt. It's really encouraging to hear about natural venues bouncing back strongly. I just hope the same thing happens in my lifetime to my local water (the once great River Kennet). Keep up the great work!

Hey Matt, Love Wykewell bridge, had some great catches on the other side of the bridge, never fished the side you have in this video. Just wondering if you raked before setting down or anything like that or just in with the bait and waited it out?

hate it when a boat goes over your spot and it takes a while to get it going again. great vid mat❤
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Thank you mate! I don't think boats affect it too much, and without them we wouldn't have the canals, but it can be annoying one goes right over your spot! Matt.

Grown up fishing the canal from Thorne to Crowle. Happy days! Great video to watch. You get any chub out of the canal Matt thesedays? Used to get them but don't see them now.
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Ayup Darren, thank you mate, it's a fantastic venue isn't it. When I started fishing it there was an odd chub in the mid-2000's, but I think that was the last of them unfortunately. Apparently there are still some from Stanilands up to and near the motorway bridge.
@darrentones-pz4eiАй бұрын
@@TackleguruTV shame about the chub. I'd recommend the Crowle stretch up from bend towards thorne as huge bream. Always nice to park behind the peg also...

Hi Mat, great video on what looks to be a great venue. How would you go about fishing it if you don't fish with a pole?
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Thanks mate, really enjoyed it! You can still catch loads of fish on these places without a pole. The two approaches I would have its a small waggles at the back of the nearside weeds, maybe loosened some casters and fish maggots or worms over the top. And then a really small little cage feeder to the far side, with some ground bait and similar feed baits and hook baits to what I was using. I'm sure it would be pretty effective. Matt.
@bennyball8374Ай бұрын
@@TackleguruTV Thanks for that Matt.

Times have changed ,,,I remember in the 70s someone was using a 9 met pole in a match and was disqualified ,,😮

Big Fan of Guru videos, some how I always thought of a canal tinca as somehow better than a regular Tench, especially from around Doncaster, nice!. After moving to the US tench are the fish I miss the most, until I found out about a lake 2 hours drive from my house that is heaving with Tench, crazy seeing as they are not a native fish. Best part is that nobody knows how they got there.
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Thanks Nick! And that's amazing, what are the chances of that! Make the most of it and good luck mate. Matt.

You can't beat canal tench. I do hate the phrase "Probably never been caught before" though unless it's a tiny fish or it's your own private water! ;)
@ChrisJackson-tv2rjАй бұрын
Great video. And amazing how it’s changed. Do you remember at the start of matches chucking across with a bomb and lobworm. Praying for a bonus chub. Or god forbid two. !? If you managed to snare a chub. You instantly thought I’m in here! 5 hours later. You’d been scratching for a few pounds. Still great matches though. 👍
@TackleguruTVАй бұрын
Ayup Chris! I can remember drawing next to Ian Bowman in a Sensas Challenge, and he caught two chub for 4kg on waggles and caster in the 160 pegs, amazing. I wonder if they will ever come back. Matt.

Hello Andy, here's a little guide from my old mate Frankie, this is a simple Inline setup, but you can also fish this with elastic too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mF6naYNqZ7OjgKcsi=4WpARp1X9QPKzyIH

No8 elastic now is that through your full top kit or just one section and have u got a pulla kit or traditional bung??

Hi mate, Matt here! Yes, a full top kit, with a side puller. Because it's a solid elastic it actually powers up quite quickly.
