Very helpful, thank you. We are working on base running and pick offs tonight at practice. We are always looking for quality training aids to help our COACHES and PLAYERS. It's great to have an experienced coach and player to provide this information. Thank you Coach Melvin and ClubHouse Gas.

The "31" move (fake to 3B, throw to 1B) has now been banned in almost all leagues from most little leagues up through and including MLB. Just thought I'd throw that out there since it is a recent change that came about after this video was posted.

Terry Banks idk where you play ball at but it is a balk at every level of play in every league that we play and every age group.... including high school. We play in several states from WV, PA, MD, OH, VA, AND KY.

If the pitcher steps off (back foot) over the rubber to the back, he could fake third; throw first, correct? Assuming this doesn't take too long to pull off. thanks

@derekjeter2fan14 жыл бұрын
@1password95 okay? but u ever watch LL world series? cuz they cant leave on drop third strikes and i for dam sure u cant lead off like pros in any LL cuz really. i played LL when i was like 7-12. then when i got 13 i was in babe ruth league which is after LL. so ya really ur tryin to tell me u can lead off in LL? wow come on watch the baseball i been watchin all these years!

Might want to teach how to pick off at first base without stepping off since you only showed with the step off. You can label it as the "advanced" method since if you do it wrong, it's a balk. Good stuff though!
@bobmarleydied911 жыл бұрын
not legal in the majors as of this year, now its a balk
@derekjeter2fan15 жыл бұрын
well u must be in like a babe ruth league or something higher than little league if u can do all that stuff....cuz when i played LL only thing we could do is steal when ball crosses plate...and ever since i know that is all u can do in little league...so ya..must be in a higher league....soooo ha...idk if ur league dude is on crack if he allows that
@derekjeter2fan15 жыл бұрын
ya seriously...little league u cant do that cuz the runners can only take a lead after ball crosses plate in little league...so u are lyin!!!!

You lost all credibility in the video when you start by saying you "step off" to throw to first. Why would you ever step off to throw to first as opposed to a jump-turn. You step off and throw to first and throw it away, runner goes to third.
@bbarker57667 жыл бұрын
Terry Banks actually he didn't loose credibility because if you understand the rules you would know this. if you step off the rubber you do not have to throw to the base you can opt to not throw or run at the baserunner instead. By doing the move you described or any other pick from in front of the rubber you have to throw the ball on your move no matter what or it's a balk. There are reasons for each move that can be made. Also when you're teaching younger players to pitch having them do the step off move helps to engrain the proper way to step off of the rubber from the wind up or coming set from the stretch positions.

I’m going to question your credibility if you think that teaching pitchers to step off the back of the rubber is a bad idea. You are in much more control when you use the step off method. You don’t have to throw the ball since you stepped off first so it actually prevents wild throws. Maybe you’re baiting the runner to take a bigger league by performing a step off move first. The fact that you think he’s wrong in teaching that move just proves that he’s much more knowledgeable than you.
