This simple kinesthetic teaching technique will help your students remember word order in English questions. "The Rule of 5 Fingers" activates kinesthetic channel of processing information and builds strong connections between the function of the word and its position in the question. Your students will ask grammatically correct questions easily and in any tense!

Hey Jenny, I really like this technique for teaching, and I appreciate the creativity and kinesthetic aspect of using your hands to learn the word order of questions. I just wanted to point something out. For those of us who are teachers here, I want to mention that this word order is specifically for object questions (What does Ana like?), and does not apply to--for example--two other common question forms: subject questions (Who likes ice cream? = "who" is the subject) and questions where "to be" is the main verb and there is no auxiliary verb (Is Ana a teacher? = "to be" is the main verb). You may not need to teach this explicitly to your students, but it may be good for you to know (if you don't already) that you are teaching this word order for object questions and not the word order for ALL questions. I'm sharing this just in case you (teachers) get questions from your students!

Thank you for such a long comment! 😊🙏 I do realize that this technique is not suitable for ALL types of questions. Sooner or later students come across other types of questions in textbooks and ask "Jenny, how come? " And I explain. But if we start teaching all types of questions at the same time, they will get lost and start making mistakes because of numerous rules and exceptions. So, I put it simple at the begnning. As soon as they are confident with this type, we look at other types. Thank you one more time for the comment 😍

May I ask What does SOS stand for?
@JennyWhite555
@JennyWhite555 3 жыл бұрын
SOS is a Morse code sequence. In popular usage it is associated with phrases such as "Save Our Souls" and "Save Our Ship". Due to its high profile use in emergencies, the phrase "SOS" has entered general usage to informally indicate a crisis or the need for action. So SOS finger is for auxilliary verbs whose role in the sentence is to HELP making questions 😉
