I have had 3 cockaiels. MY first, Pepper, just like she said can happen, got caught in a breeze while I was walking down the hallway near the front door. My brother opened the door, Pepper Loves my brother, and went to try to get to his head, and the wind took him away. Pepper looked back at me and scwacked!!! He was confused, he yelled, MOM! That was one of the worst days of my life! Pepper ended up in the neighbors tree. However I didn't know that he was so close. My whole family went outside telling for Pepper, Pepper, Pepper!!!! No peep. I stayed up sobbing all night. Praying!! This bird was my BABY. MY BABY!! It was dusk you see, and he is used to sleeping at sun down. I covered his cage, and he said " night night. " But that night, No answer. Omg. Horrible, just horrible. Sun up, next morning, I went out on my balcony, prayed, and whistled half of our little morning song. I HEARD HIM WHISTLE BACK!! I STARTED SOBBING, CRYING I WANTED TO FIND WHERE HE WAS BUT I COULDN'T WHISTLE CAUSE I WAS CRYING SO HARD! I WOKE MY KIDS They helped find him. He was only across the st the neighbors. In the tree out front. He could not fly down to me, or was scared. THERE WAS A HAWK THERE PLANNING HIS BREAKFAST MEAL OF MY BABY!!! HORRIBLE DAY!! I was making such a fuss, the neighbor woke up, and brought us a ladder so I could climb the tree, and get him down. LONG STORY , SHORT... This young lady is RIGHT!! OUR BIRDS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO FLY DOWN TO US ON COMMAND !! This young girl , she's one, to watch if you own a bird. I am 55. I have had 3 Cockatiel and 1 Budgie. She is teaching me things I did not know. Thank you! MAY GOD BLESS HER FOR ADOPTING FEATHERED BABIES!, And MAY GOD BLESS HER PARENTS FOR SUPPLYING HER WITH A BIRDROOM, TOYS, CAGES, FOOD, ECT... I WILL STAY TUNED ❤

@@matthewkilpatrick5533 Every word Matthew, every word. So grateful to have been able to find him! It's so very important that our birds know how to fly to down to us. After that, I started taking him to the basketball court at my church. He loved it! He flew 20 laps most days. At first, he would just land on my arm, or my husband's outstretched arm across the court. Back and fourth, back and fourth. Then he started circling several times before landing on us. Then, as his wings grew stronger, he could fly longer and longer. Then he started landing up on the hoop or the backstop. That's when I was able to start teaching him to come down. It took awhile, but started with millet, but still no instant fly down, so I popped a bowl of popcorn, that's his favorite thing to do, is sit in a bowl of popcorn. He saw his bowl, and flew down immediately. From then on, no problem getting him down from the basket ball lights, rigging, or hoop. He was the BEST BIRD IN THE WORLD! ❤

I had a cockatiel named Kiri. She was such a sweet bird and we hadn’t even had her for a year and she got out. We found her the next day in a tree in someone’s backyard. There wasn’t much we could do because of this and we tried getting her down but she got scared and flew off again. That was the last time I saw her. I got a Quaker Parrot last Friday and as soon as he gets used to us I’m gonna teach him to fly and recall. I’m not making that mistake again. I still miss her so much and thank you for the video.

(happened twice already!) etc. I am also worried that she might fly up to the high ledge in my room that is very high up and very dusty. She would probably die from how much dust there is. It is hard to clean way way up there. Also, your bird Duckie has very bright cheek patches for a female. Mine are pale peach color.

Living on my own, I haven’t had the resources to own birds or any sort of pet yet (I had a travel job and no basically no time at home I’d be able to spend with a pet) but hopefully one day I’ll have a feathery little friend, and if I do, they’ll be fully flighted and I’ll train them like you have!

How long does the process generally take? I just bought an 8 week old cockatiel ( lovingly named him barnelby, funny I know) and my last bird was actually a blue fronted Amazon, but this little guy is so sweet, let’s me handle him and pet him with zero complaint and never once tried biting me. Truly blessed with his calm demeanor. I’m starting to think HE is actually a SHE with how quiet he’s been. But he’s still new to his surroundings so that could be why he’s quiet (only had him for two days, but he’s been a fun little addition to the family, and he flies and I encourage it. Anyway just curious to know how long it takes (generally) for a young cockatiel to grasp this

Can you teach us how to get your bird to notice that there is a seed on your hand- My budgies don’t see it Edit: One of my budgies is named Micah, and she knows how to fly down to me. I never taught her, it’s just when she goes some where high, I make a fist at her a say, ‘MICAH GET DOWN HERE!’

I am not against wing-clipping, but I do not have an excuse to do so, and I'm glad about it. A flying bird is better than a... well, not flying bird. Thanks for the video!

Ducky looks so pretty when in flight! That’s why you shouldn’t clip wings. In my opinion, clipping wings can take away freedom and happiness. Birds aren’t domesticated animals. Anyway, keep up the great work! Love your vids! (Your birds are lucky to have you!)

I lost one of my 4 budgies a few months ago and let me tell you I was praying for her to come back and be with me. She was very naughty and loved playing with me. I’m teaching all of my other budgies recall because I can’t make that mistake again.
