Such a great help. My horse won’t stop with my body language so I pull back & he keeps going until I have to pull hard . Not good

This is such a great video! Thank you for sharing, I’ll be tuning in regularly because I really like your teaching technique (for both horse and rider!). My question is, should I reward me horse when he does a great stop by not asking for a backup? Or should I request a backup every stop, even just a few paces? Thanks again.

Lisa, thanks for watching! That's a great question. I believe we covered that in the video, but if not, you're absolutely right that it's important to allow the horse to have a moment as a reward when he or she offers you a great stop. Backing is not always necessary, it's just a step in the process to help the horse learn to hustle to the stop. If you lope down there, pick up those reins and sit down and you feel that horse instantly connect and answer, that is the exact behavior you want to praise and reward.

Thanks, Lynette! Your seat rolls under you and you soften your lower back into the stop, but you keep your shoulders up. What happens is that a lot of people want to lean way back.. and their whole back, hips and legs stiffen in the process. Creating brace through your body creates brace in the horse.

My horse stops, but sometimes she only tucks one back leg but not the other, I don’t know how to fix that , or why it is, I’ve done the backup thing since the beginning.
