Hi, before we left Germany in 2002, we purchased a bag of the first released Euros for $20 at the bank. It’s multiple different coins, sizes and colors. But that’s all I can tell unless I open the bag. Should I open the bag to see if any of the individual coins have errors to make them valuable?

Hello Leah Kay. Try to figure out if any of the coins have the rotating star error. It is an error that was present on the first German euro coins that were released and is probably the most valuable error on euro coins.

Hi, Have You tried to do magnetic test on the other side of the coin? Maybe magnet is displaced exactly because of coin radial displacement? I think complete test would look comprehensive if magnetic test is done on both coins from both sides. Also, magnetic security feature could be damaged because of radial coin displacement? Have You tried to test magnetic field with a real coin with radial displacement mintage error? Does it behave as normal? I've never seen anyone have done magnetic test on such coins. Can You tell where have You found about this magnetic test and what kind of magnet is used?

Hello Vapu. Very good questions you ask. The behavior of the magnet is equal on both sides of the counterfeit coin. Coins with a rotated die error must behave in the same as coins without the error. You can find information about the security features of the euro coins on the website of the ECB. I conceived the two tests I made based on those magnetic features. The tests can be done with any magnet that has the same form as the one I use in my tests.

I enjoy watching your videos. I have a 1 euro Greek Coin with the center reversed so the common face is on the wrong side. There is also no year stamped on the coin. Is this more likely an error or a counterfeit? The center rotates about 10 degrees inside the outer ring portion of the coin.

​@@noobinho8882 The faces are different because one coin is from Belgium and the other coin is from Italy. Every country of the euro zone has unique designs on the obverse. Only the reverse of the coin is common to all euro coins.
