Some polish brands also have 1-2 metal spheres in the bottle to help mix the polish. I noticed when I was in store, that you can see them move/float inside the bottle in sheer polishes when you tilt or flip the bottle!

I have a great tip: Put your phone light under the polish, if it's opaque, it won't light up as much as a sheer polish, the sheer one will even make your face have a colorful light.

Great tips. To me jelly polishes just look almost plastic or rubbery in the bottle, if you understand me. Thats how they kind of feel on the nail. Which I love, by the way. Creme polishes don't have that look. And sheer polishes at least in my collection are the ones with the absolutely mind blowing glitters. I'm an easy to please gal with nail polish. If its sheer or opaque my attitude is "I can work with that." Gosh nail polish is fun.

I'm guilty of just opening the polish. I don't really ever pull the brush out all the way though, so rarely is there a mess.

Yeah I just open the polish too. I don’t paint it on anything. I just see how it looks on the inside of the neck of the bottle and the top of the brush near the cap. I’m unaware of any stores that seal nail polish where you can’t open it. Maybe it’s different where she lives

@@bleeka325is not different were she lives, is just that opening the bottles of air drying polish will damage the polish. So the constant opening by most everyone will damage a product for sale, when it is not anyone’s property yet.

Same, I twist open the cap and lift the brush straight up to inspect what type of brush it has and see if it’s opaque. I guess it can be obnoxious especially if people aren’t used to the smell but I’m seriously considering buying the polish and not painting it on anything.

Yes! The opaque one is ILNP Cupid and the sheer is ILNP Pink Slush 🥰💅

This is useful information. I have one color that I got thinking it was going to be a gorgeous bright pink. It turned out to be so sheer and I don't like it. Because it is both bright and sheer. So it really is not a great polish color. I like opaque pinks. 💅🏼

I like to see how the polish coats the neck of the bottle (up where the threading is) not only to gauge the opacity, but also the true color & its intensity...assuming, of course, you're in a position where you can actually open the bottle.

Oh dang this is really cool. And the being able to open it is really helpful as well. I almost never remember how opaque any of my polishes are until I put on my nail 😅 so sometimes I go into painting thinking I'll only need a coat or two and then its super see through. So this will really helpful 😊

There is one brand (anny) in my area that always has tester bottles so you can actually try if it looks like it does in the bottle. I love them for doing that!

Good info. I want to like sheer or jelly polishes, but I just don't like how they look on me. And, I haven't figured out how to do a jelly sandwich that actually looks good. I just can't seem to crack that code. I'm trying to be more diligent in ensuring the polish is not a jelly or sheer, so this will help.

Sometimes I find that the sandwich looks best with 2 coats of jelly, then 1 thin layer of glitter/flakies/whatever topper, and then 1 final coat of the jelly! It really depends on the brand though, some jelly sandwiches work best when you alternate layers!
