In this video I show you how to tell if your lipos are puffed, and if they are puffed what you should do with them. If you have lipos and aren't sure if you should use them, hopefully this video helps!

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it because I have a drone so I got to make sure that I don’t overuse a puffed battery I have one that is a little bit puffed but not 100% and it’s charging in a normal rate and so far I haven’t seen any issues so thank you very much for the tip

Great advice. Accidentally left 3 2200 3s fully charged for a year. Not knowing anything but leery of them, every one started swelling and getting hot. Ugggh. May spring for smart batteries but damn the chargers are outrageously expensive.

Went ahead and ordered a smart charger and some batteries. Can automatically set them to discharge to storage level after a set amount of time. Awesome

My old lipo has been holding a charge for over 10 years. And still running in my airsoft gun. Lol I was getting slightly worried when the middle cell puffed. I've also had a lipo powered gun catch fire and melted down the hand guard on a m4 airsoft gun. Great batteries but I'm wondering when airsoft will go 16 volt lithium ion batteries.

thanks was very helpful was scared my shit was gonna explode but it was just a lil puffed gonna order new ones just to be safe

Glad it was helpful. Very unlikely your things will explode lol but always err on the side of safety. Disposal is pretty much like with any other battery as far as I'm aware. I personally got rid of my mega puffed one, but am giving a light charge to my slightly puffed one, just to see how it performs, and see if it goes back to normal

I usually salvage the good cells and make new packs with cells having the same Mah and discharge rating. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone without soldering experience though.

is it normal for my battery to make a noise somewhat like a clicking sound when i press on it, i wanna make sure if its the plastic cover around it that makes the sound, or the possibly slightly puffed cells. it would be much appreciated if you gave a quick answer!
@RCInsight
@RCInsight 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for a bit of a delayed answer here, I actually have to get some new batteries myself, I haven't had new ones in quite some time, but from my recollection yes, you're always going to get that somewhat just by the nature of the plastic cover being what it is. What's really the thing to look at is just how puffed they are and if your unsure, always err on the side of caution and get new ones.

Do you know how I can get rid of my bloated 2s lipo? I left it at full charge for like a year. It currently hold ~4.5v. Is it safe to discharge with a lipo killer? I did it for a while but I feel like it got slightly more puffed.
@divingfalconfpv4602
@divingfalconfpv4602 5 ай бұрын
4.5v is too high voltage. Discharge to dead 0v. Lipo killer work. Does it low C. I still put mine outside on metal table to be safer. Then throw them out I have still used batteries that puffed a lil though

My lipos don't puff when charging, I notice after running my car they are warm and puffy.

Same here is it normal?
@HORRUS29
@HORRUS29 11 ай бұрын
@@LrgFryDietCoke I found out that it isn't normal and that there are bad cells in the battery. I recommend not using them and buying new batteries. It's not worth taking a chance with them.

Thanks for this video. I have reactivated my old saddle pack lipo. They seem okay ish, but I'd like to get a new set. I haven't been in the RV world for some time now and now it seems saddle packs are not really available anymore. Is that so? Or do you know where to find them? Or do I have to change the setup on my car? Cheers, simon

Hey Simon, sorry for the late response. Honestly, I haven't been in the RC world for quite some time either, but I am just on the cusp of getting back into it myself. Personally, my suggestion would be to check out your local RC store (if you have one) because I'm never too sure of what I'm getting on the internet these days.

One of my 4s traxxas 6700 it's slightly little more swollen than the other one and it charges slower but when running the car it doesn't get hot and it last a good amount you think I'm good?
@RCInsight
@RCInsight 2 жыл бұрын
I would say so. Definitely take neccessary precautions while charging, I always charge mine in a metal tin just to be extra safe, especially if you're leaving them unattended. But if you've been using it no problem I wouldn't be concerned.

The batteries should not puff if you store them properly. Lipos should not be stored at full charge for more than 72 hours. They should be stored ideally at 60% charge or about 3.85 volts. And they really should not puff terribly much if at all. If they are puffed overly much, get rid of them immediately. They are a fire hazard.

What about the sides?
@RCInsight
@RCInsight Жыл бұрын
I can't think of an example where I've seen the narrow sides puff and not the top and bottom. The sides could puff alongside the top and bottom if it's really bad, but they wouldn't just puff up on their own at least in my experience.
