How to Tell the BREED of Your CAT

Some of the most common questions we get about cats at AnimalWised are about people trying to work out the breed of their feline friends. While many have very distinct characteristics, there are others who share certain traits and we need to look a little closer if we want to do our best to identify their breed. Some people may go out of their way to adopt a specific breed, others may simply be curious about their beloved pet. However, it is important to note that the majority of cats are mixed-breed. This means their heritage cannot be completely assured. However, with this video on how to identify your cat's breed, you can get as close an approximation as possible. We can do this by looking at a cat's head shape, ears, muzzle, type of coat and breed characteristics. I had a rescued munckin cat that was named KIKI, cause they found her in a KIKomen sauce box in a storage room. She was absolutely sweet and charming. Loved everyone especially my husky/lab mix who out weigned her by about 100 ilbs. She is in heaven now and I miss her everyday.

Our cat has come from 2 previous generations of black Siamutts. Shadow his grandma had Siamese markings you could see in the sun but was a long haired black cat his mom and himself were the same way XD but now he's doubled up on the inner mutt cause both fathers were random strays in the scenario

Cats are seldom "mixed". Unlike dogs, altered cats CAN be shown. So breeders of pedigreed cats tend to sell them altered altered. Domestic shorthair/longhair cats tend to have no breeds in their history. They make up over 97% of cats on this planet! They're the cats breeds came from not the other way around.

@@el_b0z092 Actually......when a cat is panting like a dog it means a couple things one they are overheated I need to cool down immediately to their in severe pain take him to the vet immediately three they are suffering from upper.......Sorry, but I had to correct because a panting cat could just be them cooling down but it could also signal a much more serious issue if the panting is associated with you know slightly otter behavior or lethargybut this is true.For example I noticed my Siamese panting he'd recently got outside not what we let him do normally we choose to have a pretty indoor cat and when he came back he was panting hiding acting odd and then my daughter noticed when stroking him trying to calm him down that someone had tried to cut his flipping till off immediately went to the vet my mom was also vet tech and my daughter's my mother-in-law's event tech so this is also how we know the panting was a serious issue singling his severe pain and it also is 108 outside so that's why they are severe severely concerned because the panty could have been him overheating or the severe pain or both.....JUST AN FYI.. although your description was much sweeter....

My adopted cat was a kitten when I brought her home. She has tuffs in her ears and is marked with a white bib and white little socks. She has a tabby color with a very blended tummy. But she's very soft and has a big bushy tail. I think she may e mixed with Maine Coon. She even plays fetch!!!

Really difficult to figure out tho. I guess I'll give explanation of my cat and hope someone has like a 90% accurate response. She's a tuxedo Gray with white Mostly Gray White parts around the face, paws, belly, chest and the tip of her tail looks like it's been dipped in white paint It doesn't take much of her body Anyway moving on to personality She's Quiet Keeps to herself most of the time Very laid back Lazy But when playing she's an absolute energetic Beast She loves Hunting type of games You know like throwing something and she chases after it or she chases me around the house or I chase her Her tail gets puffy as heck when she's excited or scared of something Her coat is thick Not long hair but very packed together like she's wearing a skin made of short grass if you know what I mean She's very curious every little sound catches her attention She's vocal only when she needs something It's either demand something of me like playing, open this door, put me down Or she makes sound so I go to her or when she's caught something Her ears are difficult to tell if they are short or long Kinda look like they are in the middle Not too long and not too short Her eye color is like very strange,they change based on lighting Between two so either a gold yellow or pale gold yellow and then there's a little bit of Cyan with a swamp color Sometimes they mix and I see both gold yellow with swamp The yellow mostly taking the outer space while the swamp and cyan taking the inner space sort of like a neon highlight. Whenever she sits or lays down she does it with like attitude or like very fancy. She has a lot of whiskers She's not overly affectionate but she is when she wants to be She's shy towards other people so she mostly sticks by me In Her alone time she goes off to sit on the window to watch the birds Some other times she goes exploring in areas she's already explored At times she has these burst of energy where she runs around the house aimlessly tiring herself out. Her tail is similar to how her ears are Not too long or too short. She mostly communicates with me through body movements and some meows She's not very vocal so her meows aren't very strong She hates water When she stretches her body becomes super long She's very slender Fits into small spaces Legs are short ( I don't know if I mentioned that already but I'll put it here anyway ) Her face looks like a combination of an Abyssinian and Maine Coon Around the nose and whisker parts. Anyway that's all I know I hope someone can help me figure this out cuz it's not very easy lol. I hope you enjoyed reading this as well and I didn't take too much of your time xD

I fucking love cats so much holy fuck. My cat i rescued as a kitten, i found her in the middle of a ridiculously busy Chicago four lane highway, in the middle of a ridiculously awful storm in the end of September, and she was less than a month old, and basically should have died had i not saved her. In fact i thought she would cuz she barely moved for a few hours. Eventually, she woke up, saw me, and ran to a corner under my table where i couldnt reach, absolutely terrified. So i fed her and gave her water and after like an hour of me trying to use a laser pointer to get her out of that corner, she realized she was safe and she began to purr louder than ive ever heard any cat purr (except mountain lions lol), and i was laying on my back, and she would rub her cheeks and forehead on literally the whole length of my body going all the way around, purring ridiculously loud and meowing. She was so unbelievably happy that i wasnt gonna eat her, and she basically fell in love with me and me her after that first day. As much as a human can fall in love with a cat way before it starts to get weird lmao but in akl seriousness shes genuinely helped me through some rough awful shit, and she loves me more than anything. She literally sleeps on me or with me the vast majority of the time im at home. Anyway, my point is that cats can be even more affectionate than dogs, especially in my cat Lillies case since she was forsure about ten minutes from freezing to death, and starving as well. Shes actually sleeping in my lap now lol but yea i fucking love cats. I thank 'god' (or whoever or whatever you do or dont want to call him/her/it whatever, if hes real, and i think something is real, but idk if its a old white dude on a cloud, nor am i religous, id say spiritual) literally every day for giving me one of the better parts at a dark point in my life, and allowing me to save her and love her and just being thankful i was able to have her in general. I fucking love cats lmao

Im not a cat person. Always was a dog person. However, i ended up with a cat. I have a litter box, but the darn thing would rather use the outdoors like dog. Actually, from my experience, he acts more dig than cat. He has used the box 1 time. Also, he was my neighbors cat. Sadly he and his wife passed away. They had family who was supposed to take him. They brought him back a month later and just dumped him at the house that no one was living at. I couldn't just leave a creature i had known since it was a kitten.

I really think I have a Bombay Cat. Hes got a Black and Very Deep Dark Brown Coat. He's got real long and skinny Black Whiskers. Hes got only a few white hairs in the chest area,, maybe 10-20 whites total. Hes got Bright Yellow/Green Eyes, With Big Black almost round pupils.. He's had to have teeth pulled from dental issues and he also got diabetes from eating a neighbors dry food that was left outside that we didn't know about, and he's on a sensitive diet now. He's a really beautiful boy with a small face and perky ears. The way he stands perfectly still with his chest out is like he's modeling lol. I raised him to be loving as I basically grew up with him as a kid and cuddled him 24/7 since birth. I can't lie, for a cat he's not very street smart lol my neighbors all have to watch out for him when driving because he likes to roll around and sleep in the middle of the road. He's an incredible hunter though. Our house is cramped and has a lot of little nooks and crannies, yet he still managed to catch over 10 mice since being with me, (inside and outside). His favorite thing to do is lay down in the most Direct Sunlight possible, and if it's raining he loves to be outside and lay down in the rain with no covering. He'll come in hours later soaked and be perfectly fine. His name is Midnite, for obvious reasons when you see him. I don't know if this stuff is all normal or if it's all weird for cats. Any help or advice as to knowing what breed he is would be so much appreciated!

I used to volunteer at a non kill cat shelter in my town 6 years ago . And this woman back in late September brought a beautiful white pregnant cat in along with and all gray cat male that was the well the farther. The woman who dropped off the cats had paperwork about the male cat and it was a pure Russian blue and the female I forgot what bread she was but there were paper work on her also. She gave birth of a litter of 6 but 4 died and I adopted the 2 survivors a female a grey and white tuxedo cat a combination of them and the male all gray looks like the farther my question is can that happen that my male can be a pure bred Russian blue ?!

Funny, the vet wrote my cat's description as 'white cat with black spots'. She's a mostly white cat with tabby spots. If a vet can't identify black spots from brown tabby markings then I'm done for. I only know her mate and her kittens are Egyptian mau

We save strays to adopt cats. XD and our current cat came from a black Siamutt and is her grandkid which is very similar to her and his mom but just even more of a mutt than his grandma and mom. We gave the kittens away and the kitten had kittens. XD
