Just a short explanation about the terminology (hope it's helpful) C,D,E,F,G,A,B are sort of like do,re,mi,fa,so. Basically, G#4 is considered as high notes for female (F#4 for male - lowered 2 keys). G#4 to C#5 are mid notes (D5 and above are upper notes). To me, you need time to be able to identify notes accurately wothout any aid of vocal pitch monitor. In the beginning, you can just identify the notes with apps and other instruments. I think the most important things about singing are resonance (smoothness of vocal projection), support (singing with neutral larynx, right placements and no strains), breath support, and belts. Larynx is your vocal cord. Placements include your throat, larynx, tongue which would affect the singing quality. Strain is when you're trying to tighten the muscles around vocal cord. You can only produce vibratos when you're belting but you cannot SCREAM with vibratos! Singing with resonance doesn't mean it's supported. Supported notes don't necessarily produce resonated voice. Resonance depends on proper placements of tongue with good breath control. When a note is supported, vocal cord is not pulled (larynx is neutral) and there is no strains) Typical example of singer with Tongue tension - Ariana Grande Strain - Christina Aguilera High Larynx - Jessie J and Demi Lovato (basically notes above Eb5/F5) Low larynx - Lady Gaga in some songs Throaty belts - Zara Larsson, Taylor Swift Singers with nearly perfect vocal techniques (supports, larynx placements...) - Sohyang, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Mariah Carey (Prime) Compare them to these star list singers. You'll see the differences
@neszy38147 жыл бұрын
Crixalis Sleipnir I would like to correct you in some things: G#4 is not a high note for a female it actually depends on vocal type but for a soprano it's actually in their speaking range lol you can preduce vibrato in other registers (whistle, falsetto, head voice, low notes) not only belts Signing with resonance means the note is supported you can not produce resonance without a support, but you can support a note without producing resonance
@crixalissleipnir49717 жыл бұрын
Yep, I agree but what I've commented here is in general. If I'm gonna do a video about these, it can be an hour or even longer LOL
@crixalissleipnir49717 жыл бұрын
I disagree with the resonance part. I've seen a lot of singers belting with resonance but without support. Watch Jessie J's A5 belt, it's a typical example of it.
@neszy38147 жыл бұрын
Crixalis Sleipnir there is no way you can produce resonance without a proper support ! Jessie's A5s are not resonant it's probably the reverb because the note is heady but not in a million years resonant
@resurgingflame7 жыл бұрын
Crescent Moon exactly! In proper vocal technique, you CAN'T be resonance without proper & full support first.

For the people saying "But it's not like I can just sing an F5" you can sing it in a lower octave or in falsetto, just be aware of what octave the singer is actually hitting that note in.
@nora-e61207 жыл бұрын
I would love more exercises so we train. Just so we can hear the note and 'guess' the note and then it will be revealed.
@KatieT977 жыл бұрын
I would say an easy way to explain it would be saying that ABCDEFG is all the notes of the musical alphabet. The number is how high or low the octave is. Like C4 is middle C on a piano, C5 is eight notes higher than C4. Therefore, it's easier to hear specific notes if you already have music knowledge. This will be a like a foreign language to anyone who hasn't had any music training.

I always get confused because of singers ease and their mix. Light soprano speaks G5 while a chesty mezzo struggles for F5. So it's like some notes sound high for certain people but really easy for others.
@octobremikee86997 жыл бұрын
- ovoizaiah - Lol a G5 is always hard. Look at the placements. Lara Fabian for example. The G5s in "I am who I am" (live) are effortless af and they're even rounded. And now, if you take an untrained soprano, Arians Grande for example, you can see (and hear) that she places in her throat, which is why they sound so awful. If Ariana ever try to round a belt like Lara Fabian, she would struggle like crazy and would only result on a squeezed note (even at a C5)

Thank you for this very insightful and helpful video. I always used to search youtube for a descriptive video like this and I am so glad to have come across this video because I would always watch these music and vocal based channels and not know what the notes meant as in how low or high the note was and the significance of these notes being reached.
@hans_01214 жыл бұрын
sometimes, it is still hard to tell the notes..because some singers have the ease and others have strong vocals or screaming-like voice..so u will think that the artist w/ ease is not singing the same note as the artist with the strong voice when actually the note they're singing is just the same..

How do you know what "number" the note is?
@crojalwol7 жыл бұрын
Depending on how low/high it is. You have to train your ear to be able to identify notes. Notes go from C (lowest) to B (highest) and that repeats through different octaves. The number indicates the octave. For example: C D E F G A B - C D E F G A B - C D E F G A B First octave - Second octave - Third octave C1 D1 E1 F1 G1 A1 B1 - C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 A2 B2 - C3 D3 E3 F3 G3 A3 B3 The first octave being lower than the second, the second being lower than the third...

This video did really help. But I still have one question left. If you've got the piano then there are those black buttons (hope that's the right word) and those are the notes with a b or a # between the letter and the number, right? So the black ones are always between two white ones, so there is a black one between the F5 & the G5 for example. Is this black button now F#5 or Gb5? Or are these notes the same? That's the only thing I really didn't get so far.
