This video shows you how to correctly replace the factory USB drive in your Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X with a more reliable setup. FYI most USB keys are super unreliable. My Tesla had the same problem after I purchased several different USB keys. Using the SSD drives are the only way to go.

I’ve made 3 x £1000 by bribing people using my sentry. One guy threw a can at my car for no reason. The van he was driving had the business name on the side. A disabled kid (NOT HIS FAULT), opened the boot of a big van into my car and the carers both started laughing at him and my car… that was another grand. Finally, and hopefully not lastly. Someone did a hit and run, but only scuffed my paint, about the size of an A4 paper. Another grand!

That’s very helpful. Can you pls advice what to do in the event of accident. We had one unfortunate incident and tesla didn’t record. How does the recording works in the event of accident ?

I've had the issue you noted for several months and I tried several USB sticks. Have you used the 500GB SSD for long enough to make sure same issue doesn't occur?

Is there a particular year or model that those USB slot are in the glove compartment? My 2020 M3 does not have the usb anywhere in that glove box

Tesla added glovebox USB ports with the introduction of the refreshed interior in 2021 Model 3s. Prior year Model 3s have USB ports in the center console under the touchscreen. This SSD works in all Model 3s

I've been using a SSD drive for over a year with no issues. Recently I started getting this red X on my M3. I figured it was my drive, so I bought a new one. The problem still persisted, so then I replaced the USB cable. Still no luck. If I unplug/replug it works until I park the car for a while. Next time I get in, the red X is back. I'm thinking a recent software update changed something. Perhaps it requires a better performing drive now. Have you had the red X return at all with this specific drive? If not, what is the software version your car is currently on? Thanks!

Coming up on 2 months now with zero red-X events. 2021 MYP on 2022.16.3 Same deal on my 2021 Model S Plaid running 2022.20.7

Just want to know if you could show a photo or even better a video that its recording and keeping its past and current videos of the dash cam and sentry mode from the time you posted this video. I'd really want to find on solutions on this because it is a safety issue in terms of evidence just in case you run into an unfortunate events such as vandalism and fender bender.

Yes, I run 1TB in Cybertruck. SSDs with greater capacity than 1TB will also work.

Hello, I recently found damage to my passenger side rear fender. My sentry did not pick it up, so i read somewhere in the forums that tesla records everything in the past hour under directory called recent clips, so i turned off sentry immediately and removed my flash drive. Unfortunately, i checked the flash drive on my home computer and it only recorded the last 15 minutes instead of the past hour. It has worked before but this time i think my stock flash drive had an error. I'm going to purchase an aftermarket flash drive like yours. Do you know if it is possible to increase the recent clips footage more than the past hour before it rewrites on top of the recent clips footage? That would be really helpful for hit and run fender benders. Thanks.

First having USB is a standard in 2023 is totally worthless. Secondly, is there a limitation of how big of an SSD you can go 1 TB 2 TB? I drive a lot and would rather just get a bigger hard drive and not have to worry about running out of space. Thanks in advance appreciate content

No limit. It's been over a year now with 500GB and I've yet to need a reformat

What happens when drive is full? Does it overwrite on top?

You'll get a ❌ in the dashcam icon when the drive is full. When that happens, go to the Security tab and reformat. I've had my drive for 2 years now and have only reformatted once.
