Excellent video, but note the following: it's possible for the spring in the coil tower to become so compressed that it no longer makes contact with the distributor cap, in which case you'll get spark at the coil but not through the cap. When troubleshooting, make sure that the spring extends from the tower far enough to make contact with the cap.

While doing the diagnosis I left the negative lead on instead of the positive when testing the top screw could this damage the icm?

From your description of how you set up the test, I really can't make out what you were connecting. Could you explain it in a bit more detail? Are you talking about making a mistake in setting up the test light or the spark tester or the multimeter?

If the CKP sensor is faulty how do we change that? where is it?

The CKP sensor is inside the distributor. To be a bit more specific: there are 3 position sensors inside the distributor. CKP sensor, TDC sensor, and the CYP sensor. When one fails, the entire distributor is replaced since the position sensors are not usually sold individually.

If my ignition coil become hot does this mean it getting power? I test the ignition coil harness and it supply 11.9 voltage while turning the ignition switch on. There also resistor and condenser beside the ignition coil and i heard if goes bad the car will not spark. My question is if my ignition coil working then i should have spark, right?

My 1998 crv dies at random while driving. Did the cap and rotor thinking it would fix it along with new plug wires and plugs. Still the engine stalls at random but leaves all lights and everything on

Unless it's a fuel or compression issue, these tests will eliminate or the rest of distributor related problems or pinpoint one

If the test light does not flash on and off, when you crank the engine, then the ignition coil is not receiving an activation signal from the ignition control module. Hey, I have an issue that I can't find much about, key at on position my coil is sparking, its intermitent, when it does my rpm goes crazy, engine won't start. Im guessing a sensor failing and sending a signal so its fireing, whats your guess on this. Thanks and awsome videos!

Could an ignition coil be defective and still deliver SOME spark? My 01 CRV misfires, idles rough and the engine light flashes when stopped, but is fine when moving. Another suggested this could be the coil.
