HOW TO INSPECT YOUR OWN WELDS AT HOME? A pipe weld bend test is common but you can also nic the straps to make it easier to do it yourself as your practice for pipeline downhill welding and any b31.3 welding test or api 1104 weld test. I’m Austin Ross a pipeline welder and on this channel, I like to share my experience pipeline welding to help others. Pipe weld test aren’t something you have to take under inspection to know if you could pass or not. X ray weld test are common but they also use visual inspection which you too can utilize. Testing of welding joints via welding visual inspection is what I’m coving in this video.
If you are new to pipeline welding test or wonder what you would need to pass on pipeline welding test day then watch this video on how to test welds at home. Make sure to subscribe for more pipe welding videos.

Now you can make a video welding that vice, it would be awsome learn how to weld cast iron or steel
@michaelalmeida8790

it will break again. Even if you silicon "cool" it and V bevel the entire break, it will break again. Cast is extremely dirty and the mixture isn't consistent, so you have a lot of dirty spots or high iron deposits in it. Sure, you can weld it, but it's eventually going to break right at the toe of your weld.

I am NOT a professional welder, just a DIY’r with a bit of exposure and experience. I was always told if a rod or Mig wire flux core weld uphill to keep flux from over running and interring with the filler material, tie in and porosity. Yet I see you welding downhill on the pipe. I’m sure different rods, material thickness, prep, weld machine amp settings and welder skills running downhill flux electrode can be accomplished. But is it actually something that would be generally accepted if a QA person were witnessing your weld on a critical weld.

But I'm having bad sleep patterns and it's like hell waking up in the morning. I feel I'm not at my best. I'm stuck with the decision of starting next month while I'm still taking suboxone and not at my best but push through it. Or wait till I'm totally off of it which will be some time.

Practicing for my first test. Is it better to grind your root or run a wire brush? I haven't taken my first test yet, but on the root I wire wheel it, run my hot pass at 75-90 in 3rd gear depending on my mood, and I push till I feel it dig, than long arc to let it fill before I do my next step. I notice the guys who grind there roots tend to scrape drag and step/whip it without really digging. When I say dig, I mean I push down like you push down a pencil on paper till I fill the rod penetrate deep enough into the root bead that it almost pierces through the other side. Is this an accurate method? Self teaching here
@arosswelding
@arosswelding 4 жыл бұрын
Either way, I know guys that grind their beads and I know guys that’s don’t grind em. I’d say most generally most guys grind them on a test but I have known a guy or two that didn’t grind it on a test and still made the test. Everyone welds different and learned dif techniques from others or self thought like yourself.

I bought the 6in Harbor Freight vise probably around the same time and am happily surprised it has survived and I haven't abused it anywhere near what yours has probably seen. Also for the HF vises, from what I have seen that mode of failure is the most common. You cant expect much more from a Chinese junk cast vise that only costs $80..
