I love that design! I've worked with metal for years but never jewelry. My uncle and I modify custom cars, Harleys, trucks, homes ect. This looks like fun! I love the designs. Usually I just etch what we want with a dremel or acidic chemicals. We're all crafts men and women in the family. It's fun creating personal items that reflects ones self. It's so much more rewarding seeing the beautiful results of your hard work, especially if it's for someone dear to you. To me, all of the pieces we created together in our family felt like it will always be a part of us, even after we're gone. The house our family built together is a constant reminder.

I probably missed this contest because I don’t know how long this has been up, but I’m glad I’m finally seeing the face behind the name I’ve seen so much and excited about learning from you! I’m just starting jewelry making and doing some PMC among other things like learning to solder and manipulate metal. I’m 75, so you never get too old to learn and start something new! Thanks for being a teacher!

I loved the cupcake liner ideas. I have lots of new ideas about texturing. Now all I need to go with those ideas is a rolling mill. I have lots of questions about everything in metal as a retired woodworking teacher it's all new to me. I could ask enough questions for your Friday segment to keep you busy until you retire. I think whatever you call your Friday segment will be fine. Name is not nearly as important as content. The fact that you even ask is impressive.

Hello Melissa - Thank you for your very clear and easy-to-follow videos. I recently met the idea of using cupcake wrappers to give texture and your video made an excellent follow-up and "reminder of what to do". I particularly like the idea of using the heavy watercolour paper as padding when feeding stuff through the rolling mill and your way of making sure that the pressure of the mill wasn't so great it distorted the metal was just great. I have been fiddling with the numbers on the top dials up to now and what a pain that is!

There are actually a couple of great tools for adding holes on pieces. I have a 3- and 4-hold punch that are my go-to. They are listed on my shop at www.kcjewelbox.com. I also have a 2-hold punch that works well. In addition there are a number of hole punching pliers and even drill bits used in a flexshaft, dremel or drill press that would accomplish this task.

@mimiantonetti3243
@mimiantonetti3243 6 жыл бұрын
You can do that by either using liver of sulfur to darken then steel wool or polishing pad to remove some of the patina or you can color using a torch - called flame painting. In order to keep the colors/patina you will need to seal the copper using something like ProtectaClear. I find that laquer or acrylic tend to yellow over time and you also tend to lose more of the purple/blues. Anything you cover the copper with will affect the flamed colors if you go that route as the protective finish tends to diffract light differently than the naked copper would. Hope this helps!

How about 'Follow-up Fridays"? Love the patterns. I wish I had a rolling mill. I sometimes use embossing folders in my sizzix big shot machine with thin gauges of annealed metal (like 26 ga for earrings) and it works great! But it does damage the folders a bit, and I like to use them for my paper crafting too.

Melissa, I love your video's. You teach in such a way so the information is understood, even by a novice. I don't have a rolling mill or hydraulic press, yet, so even a hammering, do's and don't's type video would be good. How to care for and best hammer's to own for all purpose use. And, are there other ways are there to apply texture to metals? Thanks so much. How about Friday Weekly Wrapup?
