So if you wanted to use sodium cocoyl isethionate along with cocamidopropyl betaine in a body wash. Could you thicken this with salt? Or only if you were just using sodium cocoyl alone? And is it a liquid salt solution or just normal sea salt? Also is using sodium cocoyl isethionate at 6% and cocamidopropyl betaine at 30% a appropriate usage?

Could you please explain why potassium cocoate cannot be thickened by salt? It is a typical anionic surfactant so as I understand it should be possible to thicken it by salt. I have no problems with thickening canola oil or sunflower oil liquid potassium soap with salt but when it comes to coconut oil soap this method doesn't work. Moreover when I add coconut soap to canola oil soap which was thickened by salt the thickening effect disappears and there is no more impact of salt on viscosity. Do you know the explanation for this?

In larger batches it is much easier to avoid breaking the surface/sucking in air, so its not an issue. Its always an issue in a lab size sample because its so small its hard not to break the surface/introduce air.

@theinstituteofpersonalcare64012 жыл бұрын
Superfatting agents are amphiphilic, but more conditioning than cleansing. They are able to form part of a micelle, and don't need to be stabilised by the surfactants, but leave a partial emollient -like feel on the skin or hair after wash off. They 'soften' the feeling on wash off. Can you tell me why more than 3 % salt will not thicken?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64013 жыл бұрын
Beyond this input, there is generally too much electrolyte for the micelles to form into long cylinders, and then you get no thickening at all. What kind of salt can be added for cocoglucoside and decyl glucoside surfactants mam
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64013 жыл бұрын
Salt won’t thicken either of these surfactants, it only works on selected anionic materials. For the alkyl glucosides, you will need to use gums to thicken, please watch this video on how to make natural surfactants: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6HCaqmegcudors Happy Formulating!
