The first step to CONSISTENTLY win money in poker is to learn How to Think in Terms of Ranges! It's time to stop trying to put your opponents on 1 specific hand. Instead, analyze ALL of the possible hands that your opponents could have in any given situation (A.K.A. a RANGE!).
Let’s focus on getting a grip on poker ranges, specifically how you should approach them in relation to game theory! Learning preflop ranges will give you a huge advantage over recreational players, as a lot of these players are choosing at random which hands they want to play.
Ranges will also help you make good decisions postflop. By deciding to play your range instead of your two hole cards, you can start to put your opponents into a guessing game where they are forced to make mistakes!
Ranges are an essential part of poker strategy and I want to ensure that you fully understand how to correctly think about your own range, as well as your opponents' range.
How to Think About Ranges Tip #1 - Do NOT to put Your Opponent on a Specific Hand
How to Think About Ranges Tip #2 - Narrow Down Your Opponent's Range as the Hand Progresses
How to Think About Ranges Tip #3 - Preflop Ranges
How to Think About Ranges Tip #4 - Postflop Ranges
How to Think About Ranges Tip #5 - Assign Ranges Constantly!

What is your favorite preflop poker hand? When should/shouldn't it be in your range?

small pocket pairs because they're easy to play. Not in my range when stacks are small, from early position in a non-passive game. Always in my range when stacks are deep and I have position especially when players behind me are passive

+1 to small pockets pairs. Got paid off with pocket 7s the other day when I flopped trips, continue bet, turned quad, checked he went all in. 🤑 music to my ears

Awesome video again! This is what I struggle with at the moment. Should I visualize the range chart during the hand and mentally cross of hands as action unfolds? Could you make a video where you talk through your range assessment throughout some example hands?

Hello, Jonathan. I've been continually learning over the years to the best of my ability, and I've seen improvement in my game in leaps and bounds. The most difficult things for me to learn are: hand ranges, and GTO pre flop hand charts. Thank you for what you do. I'll keep trying to incorporate these important aspects.

Great video Jonathan. I like your advice on viewing póker as a puzzle game, I feel like it also might help people get more comfortable at the table as opposed to the “stare them down for live reads” route you pointed out. Thanks for sharing!

I won a satellite for the mini main at Atlantis in December. I’ve watched your material for the past year and I’m trying to do my best to study and be as ready as I can be. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

A missing element to your wonderful summary is the stack sizes, especially if this is tournament play.

How do you handle people at the table who are not in the hand or even still in the hand and you take a minute or two to consider the situation and they visually and audibly show their impatience with how you are waisting their time? Do you say something to them, or complain to the dealer, or the floor manager of harassment, or just ignore them?

If they ain’t in the hand ignore them. They have no equity whatsoever in the pot.
