Cheers. I was using pre-cut pipe lengths. This is the next level!
@askthebuilder9 ай бұрын
It is next level. It's not hard to do but you need the right tools. Flood the pipe and cutting die with oil as you turn the die. You can't put on too much oil. Be sure you use CUTTING oil, not motor oil.

Thanks, nice video. I came here to maybe to find info on what type of dies I need for iron pipe. I’m not sure if I should replace with: Alloy? High Speed? Stainless? Etc. Ridgid doesn’t really have info on which for what! Or at least I wasn’t able to find the info. Thanks again.

Reach out to Ridgid. They'll tell you what metals you can cut with the dies.

Where can I get a set up like that.
@askthebuilder Жыл бұрын
Tim, you can order a set of dies here. Be sure to get the pipe vise stand as well: amzn.to/3FUTynU

Hi! If I use it on PVC pipe do I still need to oil the pipe threader?
@askthebuilder Жыл бұрын
Maybe, maybe not. It's all about heat.

Have you seen a dye set that cuts straight (i.e. NPS) threads?
@askthebuilder7 ай бұрын
The Ridgid dyes you see in the video cut NPS threads. Threads were invented by Archimedes. By their very nature they're curved not straight.

Yep. JIC, NPE, BSPT, and BSPP all have tapping and threading dies.

Can you cut a thread into cast iron?

Yes.

My threads are coming out really really ruff. What am I doing wrong?
@askthebuilder Жыл бұрын
Not enough oil? You ruined the cutting dies because you didn't flood the pipe with oil at ALL TIMES???
@dfvel7 ай бұрын
Make sure to use domestic pipe if you plan on threader with a hand held threaded. Trying this on most imported pipe will not result in acceptable threads.

Great point. The issue is trying to source USA pipe and knowing you have it. I'm not seeing "Made in the USA" stamped on the pipe I buy.

Or go to homedepot

Yes, if you need one piece of pipe. Your proposal for piping an entire house is foolish.
