You mentioned shorter darts. Is the short dart portrayed in the movie Apocalypto, real or just Hollywood's use of artistic license? I believe they also portrayed the use of short darts in "Quest For Fire"

Thank you for the comment. The answer depends on the hunter. Both systems do well. However, animals have evolved to become faster and more paranoid. The atlatl evolved into the bow and arrow because of this. The bow is faster and many carry more energy.

If only this was more modern like with the same materials modern day bow makers make them with. I would probably still prefer the traditional atlatl, but it would definitely catch the eye to people now days, especially if there were modern made darts as well with broad heads and practice heads for the users. You can market it as a sport as well as an optional hunting weapon if they desire basically something a little more natural and challenging, but also more fun in my opinion. There can be a dart board at a distance that you are aiming at for points and televise it or you can go hunting and put something on the table for the family! It’s a great and fun tool that more people should know about.

Those are spears it was originally intended for spear but atlatl dart are usually around the size he has
