Great work! The elderly are notoriously vulnerable to attacks that start low and/or attack low. Personally, I found great success with both the outside and inside low kick. I’ve never have seen one even TRY to check my kicks and in my experience, it only takes a single clean strike to ensure they will be physically unable to catch me and get their purse back.

Dear expert: How do i sync this with the feet? I am usually too far away to just throw it, it's too short range. Can you explain how to step? Do I step first or simultaneous with the uppercut?
@expertboxing6 жыл бұрын
The uppercut is a close range shot.
@conqueringruler42836 жыл бұрын
expertboxing thanks expert. So, I should not step for the uppercut. So just link them with another shot or use as a response to my opponent stepping in. Bless
@expertboxing6 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying you can't. Some guys do a step-uppercut..the up-jab is somewhat of an uppercut depending on how you look at it. But if you want power and want to throw the uppercut in its true form and essence...you have to do it in place.

SHORYUKEN! *ahem* Sorry, couldn't resist. Great tip on not letting the hips rise with the uppercut, I felt it was hindering me the most during the movement. The rest is spot on with what my kickboxing coach has taught me: tight movement (hand not too low, quick snap back), proper foot pivoting and hip rotation. Getting underneath the punch feels just right. Let me take the chance (timing is important ;-) to say that your site is a veritable cavern of treasures, where each article gives us prospective boxers a wealth of advice on not just technique but also attitude and most important of all, heart. Which is something that easily transpires from your writing. Guilty Secret: I learned the basics of proper punching form from Sagat's animation sprites in Street Fighter Alpha 3. :-P Shows how much of a fighting geek I am... And yes, he *IS* my favorite character. TIGER UPPERCUT! :-D John, may your punches always land fast and strong, -a phellow phighter

There are multiple ways. Different tools for different situations. Short uppercuts for certain purposes; long uppercuts for other purposes. Uppercuts are useful not only on the inside but also the outside as well. For example, please watch Lucian Bute's left uppercut.

Yes, usually left heel for left uppercuts and right heel for right uppercuts. It's not the rule for absolutely ALL the time but it's a good general rule to remember.
@gregcalvain48777 жыл бұрын
It's not bad advice but this uppercut is not going to have power on it. You really need to drive that right foot into the ground and less of a twist unlike a straight. If you're throwing a left uppercut as ortho you're better off going switch unless it's a counter. Left uppercuts are unnatural and should be thrown sparingly.

Yes and no. It depends on the context. If you're throwing a combination, shifting weight can help set up the next punch. But it's also possible to throw a powerful punch without shifting weight. Of course, the power would have to be generated in a different way.

An uppercut is a much more linear strike than a hook. The mechanics are not the same. This dude usually knows his shit, but this is bad advice. Don't throw your lead uppercut like a lead hook, that's straight up wrong.

Anybody have a video that shows how to uppercut the heavy bag? I want to know the part of the hand that is supposed to hit the bag. There is also a wall-mounted bag thing at my gym that I think might be better suited to uppercuts. Are there any videos that show how to use that properly?
@crosshairofficial51837 жыл бұрын
nice explanation! I didnt know that the uppercut was like a hook but upwards cause my coach told me to move my body a little lower and look at the oppenent's chin or look at the guard while my head is down.Takes alot of time and chances of me getting countered. But anyways thanks for the tip its very helpfu. For now I dont get chance of being countered for that effortless uppercut. :D

In your ebook 'How to box in 10 days' you say to shift weight to the opposite leg of the punching hand. However here you say to bring your body to the site you're throwing it from which puts the weight on your lead leg for a left uppercut and right leg for a rear uppercut. You do mention that in a combination you can shift weight. I like the shifting weight to the side you're throwing from more then shifting to opposite sides I think

Also, I like your uppercut motion. If you wanted to, you can use it to fake an uppercut to the body then hook to the head since you stated that hook has a similar motion as the uppercut.
