How to tie a Brown Buck Bug

This is an instruction video on how I tie a Brown Buck Bug. This pattern has proved to be very good for targeting Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout in Atlantic Canada. It is a versatile pattern as it can be fished dead drifted on the surface or swung sub surface in higher water conditions.

Hey man awesome flys. Just subbed a little while ago and gonna try and tie some of these. What would be best size of these for smaller trout? I live on Avalon so trout are mostly smaller ones that I catch anyway. Cheers

Thanks for the sub!! Id tie anywhere from an 8 to 12 if you are targeting small trout :)

Chris, I am curious why you don't tie the hackle in the back?

I started that way actually. I changed for a few reasons. For me it is a lot quicker this way, the fibers also tend to point toward the back when tied in from the front and using the bottom stem and i like the way i can now lock in the hackle with thread more so than how I used to do it from the back. Im not knocking anyone who ties in the back, whatever method works for the artist i say :)

With the notable emphasis on the fastidious 'man-scaping', this looks much more like a metro-sexual Carter Bug than a Buck Bug. But when all our rivers are pumped full of endocrine disruptors these days, I guess hey it's all good.
