Really informative. Sometimes just looking at images really can't convey just how folks managed these intriguing shapes and styles, so it's fascinating to see someone who's done their research demonstrate. Thanks!

Great job! I love a jaunty, fetching Chaperon and Liripipe! Now I know how Roche in the Witcher ties his hat! ❤❤

@@PopulaUrbanum it is amazing! I was sold when Geralt came strutting up with that maille laying the most effective way. It's a beautiful game and when you meet Roche, you'll see your jaunty Chaperon.

Hi, super informative video! Do you know something about how Jan van Eyck or Philip of Burgundy would have worn the hood? (the mega complex piles of fabric that they wear on their portraits)

Love this video, do you mind considering a video on mens fashion in the medieval era. I see photos of people like Saint/Sir Thomas Moore and how he dresses sophisticatedly in his painting but I am not sure what he is wearing how similar clothing! They do look beautiful.

hi just wondering what wool did you use for your chaperon ? i am a Aussie so trying to find good wool in my area is some what hard
@PopulaUrbanum
@PopulaUrbanum 4 жыл бұрын
I used Melton 100% wool, it is thick and has a a good weight to it. I am an expat Aussie from Brisbane. Where do you live I might be able to point you to a few sources that are good over there. I now live in New Zealand where I am spoilt for choice for wool. I actually bought the wool for this chaperon in New Zealand when I still lived in Australia while on holidays we had to buy a new suitcase for all the fabric we bought. If you have no luck finding wool in Australia PM me on Facebook or Instagram I'm sure we can sort out something :)

@@juzzbuzz1 Okay I know the Fabric store has a decent wool selection during winter. Otherwise I have gotten a pretty good deal from Crossley Job lots in Melbourne too.

How should I determine whether a hood's shoulders are long enough to flip, and if a face-hole is narrow enough?
@PopulaUrbanum
@PopulaUrbanum 2 жыл бұрын
Easiest way to get a good fit for the face hole is to either measure the circumference of the front of your head - this is essentially your face. Halve this measurement, and add some seam allowance and play this will be the size of your face hole. You need to ensure you have about 1cm to 1.5 cm seam allowance and your play can be anywhere from 3 - 4 cm. I suggest leaving some extra fabric and then pinning your final seams. Otherwise you can fit a toile on the body and then pinning the fabric to find your seams. How do you know if a hoods shoulders are long enough to flip? Well this is the secret.. As long as you can flip them do it. It appears that hoods worn in the shorter tighter styles such as was common in London were worn this way, although the longer your shoulders the bigger a "crest' you will have.

Makes a lot more sense now. However, it’s still weird to me that they decided to wear a hood on their head and called it fashion.
