The reason the manufacturer ties the knot on the wrong end is so you have to buy a new one every once and a while😂 Brilliant strategy from the manufacturer😂. On a serious note, great video and absolutely correct.

I have lost 4 of these anchors rigged the same way you are rigging it . Take a knife and cut 1/2 thru zip tie . My lure 11.5 was going to tip before zip ties were going to snap . I switched to a mushroom anchor and have not had my anchor get stuck since switched .
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures Жыл бұрын
I agree this type of anchor is more prone to getting stuck but the weight and size of it is best for me for kayak fishing. So far I’ve only almost gotten stuck once but I do use the smallest zip tie I think I can get away with so hopefully when the time comes, it’ll break off.

Thanks for the video. Which type of knot did you use for securing the rope to the bottom end? Anchor hitch requires two turns inside the hole but hole is small and rope is thick.
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
I used the improved clinch knot. I know that it is a fishing knot but so far I have not had any issues with it slipping. I think the fibers of the material of the rope give it a lot of friction also so it makes the knot pretty strong. Because you tie the anchor in the above method, you don’t have to pull the anchor hard against debris so there is not a lot of tension on the knot. There are probably a ton of different knots you could use but this is the one I use. Hope that helps!

First off, love the video as this is the EXACT anchor i have. Secondly is there any way that anyone knows - using this anchor or one similar - that would allow the user to tie it down on the kayak for an easy and CLEAN retrieval? where should you store it on the kayak. I have a Loon 106 and not a fishing kayak.
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I use an anchor trolley system for mine. There are several different anchor trolley systems out there and I think they are the safest and fastest way to deploy and retrieve your anchor. Search for anchor trolley system. As far as storage of the anchor while on the water, I’m not sure on your kayak. I think it’s preference but you should have it within arms reach but out of your way. I store mine behind me but I have a different kayak.

The reason the manufacturer ties the rope there is because that's how you set the anchor, by dragging it backwards. The top eye is for a separate trip line which is attached to a float. If you can't recover the anchor you paddle to the float and use the trip line.

instead of the 'hard to break' zip tie, why not used nylon fishing line? keep the videos coming. 😷
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I suppose you can use fishing line. Just have to experiment to get the right size line so it doesn’t break with regular use of the anchor. I use the zip tie because it’s easier to put on and get a snug fit and in my opinion is sturdier and will withstand normal use until you need to break it.

I wonder what the purpose of the ring at the bottom of the anchor is then if the manufacturer did not use it? Other than for people to tie the rope to it the way it should have been from the beginning, of course! 😂
@MNMadeAdventures

😂😂 how they stay in business! Someone commented and said Bigger Fishing vessels tie a float line to it and retrieve the float if the anchor gets stuck but I don’t own a Big Fishing Vessel lol
@ItsLotus99
@ItsLotus99 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video and especially your explanations! I doubt when the zip tie snaps it would dislodge the anchor like you demo'd. You're underwater so the "snap" will be totally muted. It will dislodge because you're pulling on it from the bottom of the anchor - that’s the whole point of the modification after all! So why zip tie it to the top at all?
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
The zip tie at the top will keep the anchor in the position that it needs to be in for the hooks to grab onto the bottom. If you just tie it to the bottom, the anchor will drag on the bottom with the hooks facing in the direction that they won’t grab onto anything
@ItsLotus99
@ItsLotus99 2 жыл бұрын
Of course… 🤦🏼‍♂️ The anchor would probably fall upside down as well, now that I think about it. Silly me!

@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 7 ай бұрын
When you buy the anchor, it comes with the rope tied to the end that can cause the anchor to get stuck. If you re-tie the rope to the other end, and follow this tip, you have a chance at retrieving your anchor if it gets stuck. Rewatch video 😁

To study is golden to learn a little bit of information just deadly! I suggest you go ask an old sea captain why you only made one correct alteration and missed the Dozen that will save your life. I can't say I'm completely thrilled with your anchor that is the purchase of that particular anchor but then again I do not know where you float your boat. I have been using a three-bladed plow style anchor for 30 years now I have only purchased one anchor the chain that I put on the anchor ways the same as the anchor you might want to ask the captain why I do that and how I attached all three pieces and that only gets you to the surface if you have enough line.
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, my use of my particular anchor is for small water craft. I would imagine there is a lot more involved when you are on bigger bodies of water on big rigs.

Please fix whatever you're using to fasten the rope to the anchor (zip tie, fishing line) to the rope or the anchor again separately, so as not to litter. Great video though!
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This was a couple years ago. I have since come up with a “fix” as to not litter the piece of zip tie if it ever needed to be broken. I’ll make an updated video soon.
@AgentJeffy
@AgentJeffy 2 жыл бұрын
You neglect the fact that by doing this method you prevent the anchor itself from becoming abandoned litter. So I think a tiny bit of zip tie or fishing line is better than a whole anchor. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.
@MNMadeAdventures
@MNMadeAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
@@AgentJeffy That was exactly my thought also. Lose the whole anchor and rope or a piece of zip tie? But as you can see, there are some that are hurt by it so I came up with something to help eliminate the zip tie as much as possible also.

Double tie a zip tie so you can break the one holding the line and the one on the anchor will hold the zip tie. Don't know a good way to explain it, but I hope it came across.
