Thank you for this useful video. :) Watching it at half speed a couple of times, whilst practicing the knot, was very effective for learning it.

Hate to say it, but when I first watched your video, I thought, "Darn, I've been tying this knot wrong for many years". Then I checked my original sources, and other on-line tutorials, and all confirmed that I'd been doing it right all along, and it's this video that gets it wrong! The problem is, you are forming the round-turn back-to-front with respect to the half hitches, resulting in a cross-over of the two loops which should not be there! If you had put the rope end over the bar pulled it back under and to the right of the standing end, and repeated that, before tying your two half hitches, then the knot would be correct. Otherwise, great video! :-)

Thought it was just some other way to tie it but looked wrong all through to the half hitches being sour .

If you use a buntline hitch you do have two half hitches ,but what a lot of people think of as two half hitches is in fact a granny knot which is not two half hitches but two overhand knots which is two hitches.

is that because he tied the half hitches the same way both times instead of one way then the opposite? I'm still trying to figure out if there is an advantage to doing a hitch 1 way, then doing it the opposite way the second time, or just doing them both the same way- any help would be appreciate- thanks!
