First time ever bothering to comment on a video. Being hopeless at executing instructions I never thought I could learn to secure my load on the pick up. I would always marvel at the guys in lumber yards who could taut the ropes so tight.it looked liked rocket science to me.And yet there was light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks a million Priscilla .Clear precise instructions.A million likes from me.

This is a very useful knot. I learned it when I drove a truck for a building materials company. If you spin the loop a number of times before passing the bight through it it will be much easier to untie after you’re done with the knot. A second note, if you leave the loose end of the knot too long it can wrap around the wheels of the truck and become untied.

This is an incredible knot/hitch! I was moving some stuff with a friend, and they used this to secure everything in their truck. I was blown away by how tight it got! I tried to memorize it, but they didn't tell me the name. Later, I found out about a variation called the Double Trucker's Hitch or Power Trucker's Hitch that uses another slip knot to double the mechanical advantage! Mind-blowing. I mostly use the standard trucker's hitch, but when I need lots more leverage, the double trucker's hitch is my go-to. It's especially handy for securing things to my bicycle - way better than bungee cords. I wish I had known about this years ago when I used a motorcycle for long-distance travel. Back then, I struggled with expensive, bulky ratchet straps to secure my gear. The trucker's hitch with some paracord would have been perfect - cheaper, more versatile, and probably just as secure! Thanks for posting your video and clearly demonstrating and giving terminology to each of the steps!

Thank you so much, that was very well done. I use knots all the time in my work. I think the most important knots (for electricians anyway) are the clove hitch, half hitch, square knot, bowline and now the trucker's hitch! Clove hitch and half hitches for pulling cable through conduit. The square knot for joining two ropes ends. Bowline is a great lifting knot (won't cinch on the load but holds extremely well). All are so useful if you do any kind of work or rigging. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for making this video. There has to people like me in this world somewhere who have had a life long struggle with knots. My family, friends, co--workers etc., and I laugh. If things fall out of the Sky, it was probably me who tied the knot. When you see things on the side of the road, they probably came off my ladder rack. Rule #1, don't stand below me. Rule # 2, don't drive behind me.Rule #3 always laugh at yourself. Rule #4. ask all your family, friends, co-workers etc. to tie a knot left handed. A good place to start with is their shoes. Might be a fun thing to do at a party. Your prop/carrot truck and simple way of teaching helped me a great deal. To all my left handed friends in the world who struggle with simple things from time to time and still laugh..................... I could never figure out why they put all the left handed desks in college at the back row? !0% of the people in this world are left handed I think. For those of us who went unheard because we were so far away from the teacher in class, , we often wondered if we would master knot concepts faster if the teacher put a mirror in front of their hands and let the left handed people sit behind them and watch the mirror instead. To date, I have never met a teacher to attempt such a backwards way of teaching. . I didn't graduate at the top of my class. but one day, I day I forgot my reading glasses to read the directions on a can of paint. I had 2 pairs of 1.25 in my truck so in my left handed thinking, I thought to myselff,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what if I put both pairs on at the same time? Basic math I thought is that 1.25 x 2 is 2.5 which is readers. It worked...................Again, my sincere thanks for you way of teaching.

im glad to see someone show this simple method for the truckers hitch. only downside to this is the slip knot can jam up a bit on a really heavy pull. for the record, this actually makes a 3:1 mechanical advantage over the top of the load to your original anchor point. 2:1 on your second anchor point

I grew up calling this a "doorman's knot" . My dad used this knot to tie everything down on his truck, mostly garage doors and ladders. Our fixed point was always the rack on the truck so all of our ropes had slip knots on one end to loop the rope thru around the horizontal rack of the truck. Never had one break. It works best if the rope used stretches a little. Great video!

On almost every occasion in Australia where some people attach something to a vehicle, someone at some point says "That's not goin' anywhere" meaning the load is considered secure. It's said almost as an atheist blessing to the God of loads (although I doubt anyone even notices themselves saying it). I felt the overwhelming urge to say it myself once that last knot was made :) Best Mum (Mom) ever! And nice veggies to plate delivery system!

I just learned this knot yesterday to a gain leverage when hauling up a sail. However, small difference in sailing is that knots get wet, the line swells and it doesn’t want to pull out to release. If you’re working in wet conditions you can wrap the loose end of the line behind the loop once or twice before slipping the bight through the loop. 😁

I also agree it was a good video explaining it very plainly yet, effectively. Maybe I didn't scroll far enough but I was scrolling through the comments here and every single comment was positive. Now we're on the internet and people are straight up bleep holes, so how is this possible? Not even a single person commenting on how the "tail end" of the rope as you call it is usually called "the working end." Do you erase any bad comments or how does that work? Every single comment just positive here on the Great www, idk? I just don't know enough about how comments work and if you can erase them or have any control over them. Cuz if you can't erase them and every single one really is positive, that's pretty cool. Thank you for your video.
