What's the purpose of the inward bent tip of the hook? Reminds me of a circle hook, unless I'm misunderstanding something
@JohnnyJigsTV2 жыл бұрын
It prevents you from snagging the bottom

@@JohnnyJigsTV ohhhh ok! I've thrown around the idea of using circle hooks for that very reason; however, in jigging applications, circle hooks do not make sense. They do work and people do arm their jigs with circle hooks, but I have to imagine hook up rates are sacrificed to some degree. Your hook design is a great idea 💡 👌 👍- reduce the odds of snagging while maintaining the ability to stick fish. BTW- you're channel is my latest obsession. I'm hoping to purchase the centaur light SXXUL when my funds allow...I have to get my kayak and boat operable first. I'm targeting trout and salmon in upstate NY, using 30 g to 100 gram jigs in 30 to 100 ft deep. I think slow pitching is the way to go and looks so fun

Would the hook come out as easily if the barb was on the outside like a Gama 510 assist? Great videos btw.

Thank you.. and I hope i never have to make a video on removing a 510😫 That barb on the outside would not be pleasant 🤙🤙🤙

So how do you determine the length of the assist cord? I saw you use 7.5 in/ 20cm as your demonstration, which is easy to make a simple assist hook. What if your lure is 5in/13cm in length (wide body) or 10in/26 cm in length (Torped)? There are other factors an angler needs to know, which I was hoping you would have given in detail by showing two different lures as stated above. If I missed that video, please drop me a line so I can watch it. Thanks

Thanks for reaching out. High speed jigging most guys will only put a single hook at the top, but in slow pitch we use double assist hooks on top and bottom or single assist hooks on top and bottom. Ideally your assist cord is long enough for the hooks to flow freely but short enough to where they will not hook into each other. I personally prefer my lengths and hook amounts to be equal on both sides of the jig on center weighted lures

What line are you guys using for slow jigging? thanks.
@JohnnyJigsTV4 жыл бұрын
@The Reels I prefer 30# Daiwa J braid 8 strand as my go to. Alot of guys also use Berkley Fire Line. Thanks for watching...Johnny🤙

Great channel. Been using the wire assist hooks i got from you guys and they've saved some fish. Question: you guys ever run wire ahead of your jigs? Was in the neighborhood of some wahoo yesterday and donated 4 jigs in about 30 minutes. If you have, what weight and length of wire are you using? Thanks
@JohnnyJigsTV4 жыл бұрын
Hey Laxbro, I have used a couple different things with success. I have used the flexible premade cable. I'm uncertain on the pound test? Another thing we have used is Hitina devil line. 40# test and 50# test. We do not have the devil line available on the website, but if you want to email me your contact information we can chat about using wire and I can set you up with what I use.. Info@johnnyjigs.com

Hey Johnny great video. I need your advice on a reel Valiant bv500n or Shimano Ocea jigger 2000?
@JohnnyJigsTV4 жыл бұрын
Well that is a tough question. Pending on who you ask you will get a different answer. Smoothness Ocea Jigger wins hands down. As far as weight the Valiant is lighter. Do you like lever drag or Star drag better? Do you like the auto engage on the ocea jigger? Its a tough question with no wrong answer. I'm a Valiant guy Chris likes the Ocea jigger. Thanks for reaching out and Jig On! Johnny

Johnny, are those maxel hybrids any good?
@JohnnyJigsTV4 жыл бұрын
They are entry level. You will not get the line retrieval that you get from a higher end reel. I would say they are better than the Avet reels but not as good as the Ocea jigger or accurate Valiant. For the price its a great reel.
