Very nice video. Found your site and have subscribed. One question, when tying midge patterns, why do you use a 3x long hook? It seems like a shorter shank would be more in keeping with the natural bug. Thanks much

Good question! This hook is actually very proportionate to a red midge larvae AKA an aquatic blood worm / blood midge. Check out some pictures and you'll see why trout love this deadly pattern. This hook is great for this particular bug, but is certainly not ideal for other species. Just goes to show that options and variations are key to being dynamic on the water!

Have you noticed a difference in catch rate using the red hook to the others?

What should I do for the balck thread Bc I only have one bobbbin

You can color your base thread with a black sharpie and use that for the black ribbing!

Have you tried this in other colors? Olive or purple?

We have not personally fished color variations of this pattern, but there's no reason not to give it a try!

Looks like you have a rotary vice. Use It.

Thanks for the feedback. With the black thread rib on this pattern, it's more accurate and efficient to wrap by using the bobbin. However, personal preference is always a factor so if you find a way that's better for you then go for it!
