[Instructional Book] Paracord Fusion Ties Volume 1: amzn.to/2VR8Arl
The Dragon Egg (Paracord) Pouch is the fusion of the base for the Secret Compartment Fob (i.e. Hexagonal Crown Sinnet) with the technique used to make the Backbone Bar. Together these two ties make a pouch, that's as sturdy and functional as it is nice-looking. Moreover the pouch (if taken apart) is a source of 36 feet of emergency paracord (three 12 foot lengths)!

thank you so much for making the base for the secret compartment fob so much clearer and simpler. to knot or not to knot, that is the question.

Thank you very much for the tutorial it was hard to understand the pattern but once I got it the process was pretty smooth. I changed the top a little, I made 3 diamond knots and 3 loops to put the loops around the diamond knots and it made a pretty good method of closing this thing. thanks again for the tutorial it is the only one I found on KZbin and also it took me well sped 4 hours

I love this design! I am making a few for my nephews and sister for fire-making kits. Just a quick tip for remembering where you are in the design....( helped me!) 1) If it is looping its own color, it is a front door slip-knot (the owner comes in through the front door) loop goes down into the knot. 2) If it is looping another color, it is a back door slip knot (I guess neighbors gotta come in through the back door! lol) loop comes up from behind. Hope this helps someone else! Chris

As much as I brag about JD's tutorials being some of the best on the web, I couldn't follow the base knot to save my soul. Fortunately I have his books and was able to follow the instructions for the base knot of the secret pouch there. I used approximately 12 feet of 550 paracord, and ended up with a pouch about 3 inches high, and leftover cord about 8 inches in length, except for a 6 inch runt. I'm not crazy about the finish. I might run a single cord through all the loops on top and add a ranger knot and stop knot, if I can figure out how to finish the other six cord ends.

JD, I finished another one of these tonight (red, white & blue, very cool). I did the top differently. With shorter loops, I did the Lark's Head thing, but took each blue cord and put it through three of the Lark's Heads. The result really cinches the pouch closed more affirmatively than the six strands do.

I just made this with a couple variations, turned out great. For the base I used a star knot, which starts with the base you used and adds an extra element, since I wanted this to show I didn't flip it. I don't know if it's because I used 550, but it didn't expand as much as yours, I also needed it to cinch in better, so I took some extra cord doubled it threaded it through the larks head knots, made a larks head from the doubled end threaded the other ends through that Celtic button finish.

I saw your Dragon Egg Pouch a few weeks ago when I first started paracording, and thought "I'll try that when I have a few months experience.". I tried to build my own tonight ... um, I'm sorry! I think my version is what my mutated para-frog hopped out of! It is worth noting exactly how important it it to have those ribs all an equal length! lol. But for a first, I'll leave it as is. A reminder to be precise. I will post it for Benedict's Weekly Challenge in a.m. THANK YOU JD - great video!

I had a question: how to add more lines to the pouch to increase the overall diameter? I have mad a couple 4 strand (eight outer lines) using a ladder knot as a base, but I was wondering if there is a better knot to start it with....

did this with only minimal redo on the starter knot used scrap to practice it 12 times before i used the proper length chord turned out great only wish there was an easier way to finish it off maybe some fancy work to make it a lanyard (yes i am a sailor) of some variety also can it be made bigger?

I hard difficulty with the base too. I'm going to practice it a few times with some scraps. The extra long length of the basket cords make it hard to handle.
@tanalee09

I recommend that you give yourself maybe even a foot of extra cord in case one end mysteriously comes up short (as one of mine did). Make sure your first loops are all the same size, and in the correct order (if you are using more than one color).

This is a great video but I was wondering how I could make a larger version of your design. I have these poi heads made of 1/2" Kevlar rope (at least thats what I ordered I think it might be slightly thicker) that I tied with the help of another KZbin video named the Inferno Knot. If you look it up its like the first one, but if you watch to the end it shows the heads next to a beer bottle and that is about how large my heads are. So is there a way to make a pouch that big?

For other folks, having trouble with base, pin it to project board with the side you want inside and use Fabri-tac, it's sticky like hot glue. Let dry, voila! Cords too long? You goofs, wrap excess cord around your hand and get some handy-dandy rubber bands and tie them puppies up! Silly peoples. :-) Well, hey, at least I got a laugh out of it, hope you did too. Last, but not least, clockwise inside, counter clockwise outside, I had to take mine all the way down and start over, lol.
