I love this as a parlour trick, though I’m highly skeptical those shoes will stay tied. Definitely the way to go if you’re in a hurry (e.g. house on fire, being chased by rabid dogs, Mother-in-law visitation and need to sneak out the back, etc ;-) )

So you use it as a parlor trick, then untie your shoes and make a granny knot or whatever? If you actually used Ian's knot (not sure why this guy didn't give credit), you would know that they never come untied. I've used this knot for 10+ years and admit I'm always slightly annoyed when I'm out with a barbarian who will make me wait because they need to retie their shoelaces every few hours, but refuse to ever look up a better knot.

@@raftermanhoward1883 I’ve got a pair of laces that are super super slippery, so, for those, I have to go the extra step of wrapping a loop around twice before pulling it through the middle loop, as expertly explained by this author in another video. Ever since learning that method, those laces never come untied (and they used to unravel after only a few minutes). This method works fine on most of my other laces, but I find the stability of the extra loop wrap to be so trustworthy, that it is now my go to . Unless I’m in a hurry. Then I choose a different pair of shoes with normal laces , and do it this way :)
